2 Why Have Campaign Events? Taking the time t plan well-rganized, interesting campaign events will pay ff in the verall success f the CFC in yur department, agency, r installatin. Campaign events help educate dnrs abut the CFC and its participating charities, prmte federal emplyee engagement, and encurage participatin in the campaign. Campaign events can be pwerful. Dnrs are mtivated when hearing directly frm charities abut the incredible impact CFC dnatins have n the lives f peple in need. Wrk with Outreach Crdinatr staff t crdinate charity participatin in events, ensuring a fair and equitable selectin. Event Planning Guidelines And Regulatins Campaign events ffer an additinal tuch pint with ptential cntributrs, but they d nt replace the necessity f the persnal ask, which is best accmplished thrugh ne-n-ne cntact by a Keywrker. Cash fundraising events are nt permitted under CFC regulatins. Hwever, events are a great way t educate yur clleagues n hw t make their pledge. Have trained campaign wrkers in attendance t answer questins regarding dnatin ptins. Feel free t dem the nline pledge prtal and have paper Pledge Frms and Pledge Tip Cards available. Always fllw yur department r agency's specific regulatins and ethics guidelines when planning events. This includes btaining prper apprvals befre yur event. CFC funds cannt be used t purchase fd r drink. Fd and beverages can be dnated (e.g., a ptluck lunchen). CFC funds cannt be used t purchase prizes r entertainment. My cause is cean prtectin. 3 Types Of Events Frm kickff t clsing ut the campaign, events are critical t encurage participatin and increase awareness. Events can be part f smething already scheduled, like inviting a charity speaker t weekly staff meetings, r they can be a stand-alne, like a chili ck-ff. Awareness Events These events educate yur cmmunity n the ptins and benefits f supprting charities thrugh the CFC. Invite guest speakers such as leaders at yur agency r installatin and representatives frm CFC-supprted charities. These events are a great way t spread the wrd abut the campaign and build mtivatin t supprt charities thrugh the CFC. Awareness events can be held at the beginning f the campaign (e.g., a kickff event) r thrughut the campaign (e.g., a charity fair). Special Events These events are ften held in cnjunctin with an event that is already taking place at yur agency r installatin (e.g., leadership calls and staff meetings, farewell parties, bazaars, training/safety days, etc.). Hsting a friendly CFC cmpetitive event can bst energy arund the campaign and add a fun element t an existing event (e.g., push up cntest) and prvide bragging rights t the winning ffice r unit. This year, cnsider planning special events in supprt f the Cause f the Week, #GivingTuesday (Nv. 27), Internatinal Vlunteer Day (Dec. 5), r the last five days f the campaign. Recgnitin Events Recgnitin events allw department, agency, r installatin leaders t publicly recgnize and thank campaign wrkers fr their dedicatin and thank all emplyees fr their genersity thrugh the CFC. These are usually held tward the end f the campaign, as a finale event, r even a few weeks after the cmpletin f the campaign. If allwed by yur agency, set up a vlunteer event at a lcal CFCsupprted charity r have the charity cme t yur lcatin with an activity (e.g., packing bag lunches t be delivered t the hmeless r writing thank yu cards t send t U.S. trps serving verseas.) Invite a lcal celebrity r dynamic speaker frm yur federal agency t share stries abut the psitive impact f charitable giving. Crdinate a sprting event fr friendly cmpetitin between federal agencies, ffices, installatins r units. Examples include: sftball game, basketball turnament, flag ftball, bubble sccer, etc.) Make it a friendly cmpetitin r a kickff event. Incrprate int ther events r use as a virtual/scial media event fr agencies with a large number f emplyees. 5 Cstume Cntest Service Auctin Pie in Face Charity Ppcrn Race r Glf Office Mini Glf This can be held at a specific date, time, and lcatin r n scial media. Arund Hallween, invite c-wrkers t dress up in cstumes and encurage emplyees t vte fr the winning cstume. If dne via scial media, emplyees can submit their wn phts nline. Get members f yur campaign team, leadership, and thers t pledge a service that will be rendered when emplyees win the bid and agree t make a CFC cntributin in that amunt. Services might include washing a car, giving a haircut, baking a dessert, r taking a pie in the face. The mre creative the dnated services are, the mre interest yu will draw t this event. The event culd be a live auctin r virtual silent auctin. Get members f the leadership and campaign team t vlunteer t take a pie (paper plate with whipped cream) in the face the agency reaches certain campaign milestnes. This is a fast paced event that wrks well as part f a CFC kickff r charity fair. Rent r brrw a buzzer, bell, r gng and place it n stage r in the frnt f the rm. Invite charities t give a 30-secnd pitch t the audience t explain wh they are. Encurage charities t use prps, dress in cstumes, and therwise make the speech memrable. Get smene t time each charity and sund the gng when their time is up. It ges fast, like ppcrn! Have attendees vte n their favrite pitch by rund f applause and award a prize t the winner. Participants can be encuraged t pledge a certain dllar amunt per kilmeter r per hle. Place signs abut a different charitable cause at each mile marker r hle. Participants culd be encuraged t cme dressed in a cstume r carry a prp that represents their favrite charitable cause. Set up a pht area t encurage participants t pst selfies n scial media with a challenge t cwrkers t spnsr them by cmpleting their wn nline pledge. Have each ffice in yur agency set up a miniature glf hle. Each hle shuld represent a charitable cause with facts abut the cause. Participants will learn abut varius causes as they play the curse. Award a prize t the ffice with the best verall, mst challenging, and/r mst inspiratinal hle. 4

Check with yur agency head r cmmander s calendar. Obtain apprval. Receive prper event apprval frm the legal department and/r leadership. Ensure yu are aware f methds fr crdinating and cmpleting the apprval prcess. Chse a lcatin. Bk the space t allw enugh time fr set up. Cnsider: sund systems, vide equipment; restrms; parking; handicap accessibility; directins; trash cllectin; additinal cleanup. Publicize yur event. Utilize annuncements, flyers, s, newsletters, splash screens, scial media, website, intranet, bulletin bards and wrd f muth. Prvide the wh, what, when, where, and hw t get mre infrmatin. Cntact yur lcal public affairs ffice and/ r radi statin fr event cverage. Prvide prmtinal items/incentives. When yur budget desn t allw, find ways t ffer incentives r raffle items. Prizes and awards can include crafts, baked items, dnated items, premium parking spts, and ther perks authrized by yur leadership. Pictures f CFC events are a great way t prmte the creative ways yur agency is implementing the campaign.
