Dane County Humane Society has been working with our community to save lives for almost 100 years as your private, independent, nonprofit animal welfare organization. DCHS is your local animal shelter and resource. We are a community supported organization and are not affiliated with any government agency or national animal welfare organization, although we do partner with other shelters, rescues, and nonprofits across the country. We are proud to be an open admission shelter with an adoption guarantee, thanks to YOU! OPEN ADMISSION We never turn away animals in need. DCHS is committed to keeping our doors open to help people and animals in our community. We increased our save rates to an average of 90% for companion animals in ADOPTION GUARANTEE All healthy and treatable animals are guaranteed safety and shelter with us for as long as it takes for them to find a loving home. 3,432 companion animals found forever homes in 2017, including 1,360 dogs, 1,657 cats, 106 rabbits, 6 horses and 1 green tree frog. Dane County Humane Society relies on YOUR generosity to make incredible things happen. Bowie was brought to DCHS in May of He was found by a Good Samaritan wandering around a Walmart parking lot and was skin and bones, with large cuts on his legs. Thanks to the support of our community, DCHS staff and volunteers were able provide him with the immediate care he needed to clean his wounds and get him on the path to healing. After spending several weeks in a foster home to gain weight and rest, Bowie was ready to find a home! When Jason heard about Bowie, he knew he had found the perfect dog for him. Jason drove over 7 hours from North Dakota to meet Bowie, and it was love at first sight! Your support will help more animals like Bowie find new families to call their own! 2 DCHS is more than just an animal shelter; we provide resources and programs to our neighbors in Dane County and beyond. - DCHS s Wildlife Center cared for 4,097 sick, injured and orphaned wild animals in 2017, including bald eagles, foxes, snapping turtles and other native Wisconsin species from over 20 different counties. - 1,974 spay and neuter surgeries were performed by our Animal Medical Services team in 2017, as well as 8,278 medical exams, 190 dental surgeries and 72 other surgeries lost pets were reunited with their owners in 2017 due to the efforts of our staff and volunteers in our Lost and Found program. - 4,600 people were reached through our humane education programs in 2017, including Camp Pawprint, tours, presentations, fieldtrips, and more. - Our Pets for Life program, started in 2018, provides free spay and neuter, support services, pet supplies and other resources to people and their pets in communities with limited pet wellness resources, and has already helped more than 70 animals in the Madison area. In total, over 9,000 animals find refuge, care and compassion each year!
