2 Location West Norwood is a suburb situated in South London within the London Borough of Lambeth. West Norwood is approximately 10 km (6 miles) south of Central London, 10 km (6 miles) south of the City of London and 16 km (10 miles) south west of Canary Wharf. West Norwood is surrounded by other London suburbs such as Tulse Hill, Streatham, Upper Norwood and South Norwood. Gatwick Airport is approximately 42 km (26 miles) to the south. West Norwood is easily accessible by public transport. National Rail stations in the area include West Norwood Station (Zone 3) which has services direct to Victoria, Clapham Junction and London Bridge. 3 Description The interest for sale comprises an elevated scroller advertising hoarding constructed of metal and timber. It is clearly and highly visible to both pedestrian and vehicular passers-by on the busy Norwood Road. Note: the interest for sale comprises the hoarding on 445 Norwood Road. The adjoining hoarding is built on 447 Norwood Road and does not form part of the sale. The site is no longer in use as a fire station and in March 2015 planning consent was approved by the London Borough of Lambeth to create a landmark development to provide a blend of 22 converted and new build residential units with a day nursery on ground floor. Of the 22 residential units only 2 are to be made available for affordable housing. The listed Victorian building which was built in 1881 holds a colourful past. For 35 years it housed 26 firemen, their families and two horse-drawn fire appliances before falling out of use in 1916 with the advent of motorised engines, which were too big to fit through the doors. It then served the Lambeth community as a church hall, stood strong through the Second World War as an observation tower and was brought out of disuse by the South London Theatre Company in 1967.
