The event, which began in 1997, takes place the rstمح Saturday in February every year. This family-oriented event has raised over $3 million for Central Ohio children s charities. Activities for children take place throughout the day in The Children s Open, a specially-designated and secure area of the zoo. 13 WHAT IS ROTARY? Rotary is the world s rstمح service club organization and has a worldwide membership of more than 1.2 million business, professional and community leaders. Members of Rotary clubs, known as Rotarians, provide humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build goodwill and peace throughout the world. The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster: First: the development of acquaintances as an opportunity for service; Second: high ethical standards in businesses and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations and the dignity of each Rotarian s occupation as an opportunity to serve society; Third: the application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian s personal, business and community life; and Fourth: the advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service. Of the things Rotarians think, say and do, there is a four-way test that is applied. It simply asks: Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned? There are 33,000 Rotary clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas. Clubs are nonpolitical, nonreligious and open to all cultures, races and creeds. As signiمحed by the motto Service Above Self, Rotary s main objective is service in the community, in the workplace and throughout the world. This Chilly Open is one of the largest, oneday Rotary Club sponsored fundraisers in the United States and continues to grow each year. There are no administrative costs to take away from many charities served. f PO BOX 1200 WESTERVILLE, OH
