21 Electronic Specifications Archant runs a 100% PDF version 1.3 workflow and, as such, requires all electronically supplied advertising files to be compatible with its system. These guidelines must be followed to ensure quality reproduction of digital material. Acceptable Format: PDF 1.3 There are hundreds of different software packages available to produce artwork. However, technical and quality issues determine that we can only handle artwork in the PDF 1.3 format within our production processes. PDF/X1-a recommended. Problems: Photoshop PDFs (type in this format may reproduce poorly) Word PDFs (can only produce RGB PDFs) Excel PDFs (can only produce RGB PDFs) Microsoft Publisher PDFs (some versions only produce RGB PDFs) PowerPoint PDFs (can only produce RGB PDFs) JPG, BMP, TIF files (type in these formats may reproduce poorly) PDFs greater than version 1.3 will be downsampled to 1.3. This may result in transparency not displaying as intended. Although these formats can give problems our automated pre-press software will reprocess for our needs. Archant cannot be held responsible for errors, omissions or missed advertisements as a result of technological incompatibilities. File Naming: Please ensure that the file is clearly labelled with our URN (Unique Reference Number).

22 Electronic Specifications Advert Sizes : Advertisement must be SINGLE PAGE PDF 1.3, set to the correct size (see column widths opposite), with NO white space surround, NO slug lines and NO registration marks, please. Fonts: Fonts must be embedded PostScript fonts should be used. Multiple Master fonts CANNOT be used. Colours And Inks: CMYK colours should be used RGB, Pantone, Index or other colour modes submitted will not separate as intended when processed through automated pre-press system. Additional Information: Archant will not, under normal circumstances (i.e. PDF/X1-a, CMYK, Fonts embedded), alter or amend any electronically submitted advertisements. Images Within Pdf: Picture resolution 200 dpi. The use of ISOnewspaper26v4.icc profile will give the correct 240% TAC. Archant s automated pre-press system downsamples images greater than 250 dpi to 200 dpi.
