2 ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION Habitat s mission is to transform lives and communities by providing lowincome families an opportunity to help build and then purchase an affordable home. Families are selected based on their housing need, ability to repay the mortgage and willingness to partner. Funding for Habitat s mission comes from individual, corporate and foundation donations, monthly mortgage payments and ReStore revenues. Habitat s ReStore sells donated home improvement goods such as furniture, appliances and more. THE EVENT DETAILS WOMEN BUILDING UP WOMEN WOMEN BUILDING UP WOMEN is a women s philanthropy group dedicated to the construction of affordable homes in Miami for low-income single mothers and their families. Though our neighborhoods are comprised largely of women and children, they are also the population most likely to be affected by poor living conditions. Our Women Building up Women events provide the opportunity for women to take a proactive step in serving their communities. The proceeds of this event will be directed toward construction costs of a home for a single Mom. POINTS OF PRIDE Over 1,100 families served in Miami, to date, housing approximately 4,500 people. Each year, thousands of local volunteers help fulfill our mission. Homes are sold to low-income families and are financed with 0% interest mortgages. Our foreclosure rate is less than one percent. Payments never exceed 30% of family s income. Families work at least 250 sweat equity hours building Habitat homes, including their own. The fourth annual Hard Hats & High Heels cocktail reception brings together a cross section of Miami s professional, social and philanthropic leaders. The cocktail is organized by Miami Habitat s Women s Leadership Council and will once again be held at the EAST Miami hotel at Brickell City Centre. This reception aims to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami s Women Build home, as part of its efforts to build affordable housing for low-income families in Miami-Dade county.

Our homeowner, Mitchie, balances undergraduate studies, a full time job and the duties of being a single parent. She feels honored to have a sanctuary to retreat to. The Torrez Family is thrilled to be living in a home they can call their own. Marilet, the matriarch, is a Miami-Dade elementary school Teacher and a cancer survivor. She is extremely grateful for the opportunity that Habitat has given her. The Johnson Family was the first family to receive a home sponsorship from the funds generated at our inaugural Hard Hats & High Heels Cocktail. The family has settled into their home and is enjoying it immensely.
