5 ANNUAL DINNER The Chamber Annual Dinner celebrates the previous year s accomplishments and serves as the official graduation for Leadership Connect, the community s leadership academy. The annual awards for the Lifetime Achievement Award, the Spirit of Community Award and the Dr. Elizabeth Curtis Young Professional Award are presented. Held the first Thursday of May. 6 BUSINESS RECOGNITION LUNCHEON The Business Recognition Luncheon salutes five area businesses, each selected by their respective municipality, for their growth, creation or retention of jobs, increased productivity and investment in the community. The luncheon is a cooperative effort of The Chamber, the City of Ferrysburg, the City of Grand Haven, Grand Haven Charter Township, Spring Lake Township and the Village of Spring Lake. Held the third Wednesday in June. 7 THE CHAMBER CHALLENGE GOLF OUTING The Chamber Challenge Golf Outing is a full day of networking, camaraderie and fun, where 144 member golfers and guests tee it up for prizes and a relaxing networking day with peers. The outing concludes with a BASH, where golfers are joined by other Chamber members. Held the second Wednesday of September. 8 CHAMBER BASH Hosting the BASH is a great way to showcase your business while providing Chamber Members the opportunity to socialize and network in a relaxed setting. Attendance is free for Chamber members and guests. Held the second Thursday of the month from 5-7pm. 9 EARLY BIRD BREAKFAST The Early Bird Breakfast is a great way to stay up-to-date on what s happening in the local business community. Held the third Friday of the month, September through May, from 7:15-9:00am at various locations. 10 BOOMERANG Boomerang, a career exploration event, is held annually at Grand Haven High School. The goal is to attract local talent back to the area. This is achieved by showcasing local companies and their various career paths to high school seniors from Northwest Ottawa County. 11 LEADERSHIP CONNECT Leadership connect is a nine-month program designed to provide class members with a solid understanding of their leadership style and the leadership style of others, while raising their awareness and understanding of the issues that will have the greatest impact on our community in the future. Held the third Wednesday of every month, September thru May. 12 LAKESHORE YOUTH LEADERSHIP CONNECTIONS The program will expand the students experiences beyond their own communities to prepare them for the future. In order for us to be the type of country and community that we want to be, we have to respect different perspectives and be more accepting of the differences in our society. 14 JINGLE BELL PARADE Area non-profits and businesses ring in the holidays with lighted floats, music, costumes and good cheer. The parade is followed by the lighting of the community Christmas tree and caroling in Central Park. Held downtown Grand Haven the first Saturday in December. 15 SAND SCULPTURE CONTEST Sand Sculpture Contest draws hundreds of families, individuals, children and teams to sculpt sand into artwork. In addition to those working in the sand, hundreds more come to watch sand transform before their eyes and cast their ballot for the People s Choice Award. 20 FARMERS MARKETS The Grand Haven Farmers Market and the Spring Lake Farm & Garden Market are managed by The Chamber of Commerce Grand Haven, Spring Lake, Ferrysburg to provide farmers and small business owners an opportunity to sell their fresh, Michigan grown and/or produced foods directly to customers. 21 FARMERS MARKETS $2,250 Power of Produce (POP) Kids Club Sponsor: The purpose of the POP Kid s Club program is to empower kids to make healthy food choices, introducing them to where their food comes from. Kids, ages 3-13, sign their Passport to Health, receive a POP reusable shopping bag, and $2 every time they come to the market in wooden tokens to be spent on fresh fruits, vegetables and food plants. The ATHENA Leadership Award is presented annually to a woman (or man) honored for their professional excellence, community service and for actively assisting women in their attainment of professional excellence and leadership skills.
