Te Reo Signage A number of councils have enquired as to whether there is a standardised list of Te Reo words for recycling and rubbish signage. Currently only Para Kore has a standard list and there is a translation company in Palmerston North which has included zero waste words in the science dictionary. Another council who hired a Maori translator received a different set of translations to the Para Kore translations. Currently The Kiwi Bottle Drive is running a message in a bottle campaign encouraging people to physically mail bottles and cans found on beaches, public reserves or roadsides to Scott Simpson asking for container deposit legislation to be introduced. They are aiming for 10,000 bottles to be physically mailed in. There is no charge for mailing in a bottle as any item posted to government which weighs under a kilo can be mailed in via freepost. Freepost stickers can be downloaded here This is a great opportunity for school children to get involved in an environmental issue and to learn about civic participation and could be of interest to your enviroschools.
