2 We used a taboo word toilet - jorlon - жорлон 15,000 kms (10,000 miles) travel by Local Solutions team broke the prejudice against toilets From November 19 to June 8 44 trainings were conducted for 3120 persons

3 What we aim to change From soil polluting pit toilets to environmentally friendly ones From bad odor to odorless From fly infested to fly-proof From dangerous to comfortable From un-cleanable to cleanable, from non-recycling to recycling. From inaccessible to accessible From non-existent or limited to various options designed for business and private use From lack of participating in urban planning to active participation. From ignorance about our drinking water to full awareness of water and sanitation.

A Video presentation for the audience 9. Seven lectures per class; three additional presentations depending on availability of the speakers; 10. Four group exercises

8 Outcomes New start up companies are introducing their products on market. Corporate marketing uses the word Jorlon widely and gracefully Public libraries all over the country has the book Let s change our toilets and the readership is high. Very first bank has agreed on micro financing of targeted activity. Initial Information Network platform is being setup (social and business network) Needs Assessment on toilets change has been done 4000 people were surveyed 8 months of social media campaign to change attitudes. Attitudes are changing noticeably.

9 Lessons learnt There is still need for capacity building among service providers and toilet enthusiasts There is need to develop standardized low-cost toilets to offer to public. Support for start up toilet companies and businesses is needed. The planning, building and managing public toilets and event toilets remain as big problems and shortcomings. Culturally acceptable and affordable toilets for nomadic herders need to be developed.

10 Next Step Provide very specific and tailored training for local business and toilet enthusiasts in order to build their capacities in sanitation sector 20 trainings for 1200 participants Change 6000 toilets (1 percent of country s total) within next 3 years in collaboration with multiple stakeholders ()-- a fund raising effort to enhance the soft loan fund for toilets. R&D project by Local Solutions for moveable toilet for nomadic herders. Capacity building in planning, building and maintenance both family and public toilets a management company can be established.
