3 What Is Inform? Inform is a nationally recognized publication of the Virginia Society of the American Institute of Architects featuring award-winning editorial, content, and graphics. Prior to launching Inform in 1990, the Virginia Society AIA published the Virginia Architects Handbook for more than 25 years; in 1994; this handbook was redesigned and reintroduced as the annual directory issue of Inform. In 2010 the Society expanded its reach with the launch of ReadInform.com. The site offers more direct interaction among its readers and advertisers while covering exclusive, web-only features, previews, news stories, and interviews along with expanded content from the magazine. Editorial Purpose Inform is the only magazine that focuses exclusively on architecture and the built environment in the Mid-Atlantic. Our readership includes thousands of construction-oriented readers who specify billions of dollars of architecture and interior products every year. 9 Advertising Specifications Accepted File Format: Adobe PDF files created with Distiller program. 300ppi and CMYK color. PDF files created from WORD, or Publisher are not acceptable. For the correct PDF presets for your specific program, please contact Cathy Guske, or , ext If you do not have Adobe PDF capabilities, please contact us. Design services are available for a modest fee. Media Accepted: ed files (up to 10MB). CD-ROM disks. A laser proof and color guide of your ad is required for all color ads. If ad is color, and no color proof is provided by advertiser, printer will run color according to SWOP color densities. Graphics Resolution: 300ppi minimum saved in TIFF or EPS format. Do not compress graphics using JPEG or LZW. All photos should be scanned in at two times the input line screen ruling (which is 150-line screen) at a final placement size of 100%. Color: Color images should be saved in CMYK format. RGB or PMS colors in the file should always be converted to CMYK breakdowns. Do not exceed 280% color in any area of your ad. If you have black areas in your ad, please set the black to 30%C, 20%M, 20%Y and 100%K. This will ensure a dark, true black without exceeding the color saturation limit. Ad Size: Crop marks for full-page ads should be at trim size (8.5 x 11 in.) Fractional ads should be set up exactly to sizes published below. Bleed Ads: Bleed ads (full page only) should extend beyond crop marks (trim size) by 1/8 inch. If your document utilizes any typeface from a vendor other than Adobe or typefaces that are not included in the Adobe Font Folio collection, you must convert the type to paths/outlines in a drawing program (i.e. Illustrator or Freehand) prior to creating the PDF file. Quality Control: Inform is not responsible for color variations between the digital file and the printed image if a high-end color proof is not provided. The advertiser or agency is responsible for providing materials meeting Inform specifications. Inform is not responsible for making corrections to supplied materials. 10 Terms & Conditions Effective December, 2012 Advertising Responsibility Advertisers and their agencies assume liability for all content of advertisements printed and assume responsibility for any claims which may arise from their advertising. The publisher reserves the right to reject any advertising, including but not limited, to any advertisement which, in the publisher s opinion, does not conform to the editorial or graphic standards of the publication. Publication and Closing Dates Issued six times a year including the annual Directory of Virginia Architecture Firms. Advertising reservations are accepted through published dates or as stated verbally by Inform staff. If copy is not received by closing date and insertion order has not been cancelled, the previous advertisement of the advertiser will be inserted. Cancellations The advertiser or its agency may not make cancellations or changes in orders without giving written notice 30 days prior to space closing date and upon payment in full of the space rate earned. Advertising ordered at a frequency or special discount and not earned will be billed at earned rate (short rate), and advertiser will forfeit all discounts and advertising benefits. Cover contracts & Marketplace insertions may not be cancelled. Rates Advertising must be inserted within one year of first insertion to earn contract frequency discount rate. If the number of insertions is not specified on the order or contract, each insertion will be billed at the one-time rate. Advertising ordered at a frequency discount rate and not earned within one year from first insertion will be billed at earned rate or short-rated. Proper notification will be given of any rate changes. Such changes will not affect yearly contracts still in force. Agency Commissions A 15% discount will be allowed on the gross billing to recognized agencies. Commissions do not apply to ads that are not camera-ready or to publisher s production charges. Terms All advertisers will be sent an invoice with a tear sheet after publication. Invoices are due 30 days after issuance date. Past due invoices are subject to 1.5% service charge per month. Agencies whose accounts are over 60 days past due forfeit 15% discount. The advertiser agrees to pay all costs of collection, including reasonable attorney fees, incurred by the publisher in connection with the collection of any past due account of the advertiser. Credit card and check payments are accepted. Make checks payable to Virginia Society AIA.
