2 Event Series from 1st to 5th June 2018 on theme Beat Plastic Pollution Beat Plastic Pollution, the theme for World Environment Day 2018, is a call to action for all of us to come together to combat one of the great environmental challenges of our time. Chosen by this year s host, India, the theme of World Environment Day 2018 invites us all to consider how we can make changes in our everyday lives to reduce the heavy burden of plastic pollution on our natural places, our wildlife and our own health. In context of with this Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune along with Delhi Based RP s School of Planning and Architecture, WWF and Sulabh grapple an opportunity to embrace the many ways that we can help to combat plastic pollution around us through a series of engaging activities and events generating strong public interest and participation from 1 st to 5 th June The objective of celebrating Environment Day event series was to make younger generation more sensitive towards Beat plastic pollution. The official opening ceremony of WED ON 1 ST June 2018 at Sarojini Market, Delhi was marked by the esteemed presence of some 300 people for the event including students, women, kids, street vendors, and shop keepers, buyers at the market, senior citizens and youth community. Several activities like Rally, interviews with local vendors and customers, Sensitiztion of local people's towards effect of using plastics in their daily life were conducted. On 2 nd June 2018 at INA market, Delhi consists of awareness programme and interaction with INA market association members. Achievement of the day was positive support towards Beat plastic pollution and pledge to continue using biodegradable products for everyday use. A local resident and number of children's showed great enthusiasm for campaign. Third day on 3 rd June 2018 of WED celebrations event was held mobbed place at Kotala market, Sewa Nagar, Delhi. Event witnessed a large number of people those were totally in support of this campaign and took active participation in the rally at the market. Ms. Seema Bhupendra Malik, Councilor of Kasturba Nagar area, along with her team was also present for event. She address local public ; how plastic is posing as a great threat to our next generation & requested the shopkeepers and the customers to stop using plastics by 5th June She also recommended the use of biodegradable and cloth bags for shopping and daily needs items. 'Say no to plastic bags' and messages regarding

3 the clean environment displayed, movie screening on Harmful effect of Plastic use and Refuse, Reduce, Recycle and Reuse of Plastic was organized. Mega Event on 5 th June 2018 IITM, Pune & SPA, Delhi lead for organization of mammoth event on WED, 5 th June 2018 at most crowded and famous place "Connaught Palace", Inner circle, Delhi with great zeal. Active participation of WWF, Sulabh and other centres like CMS, CPCB leads to triumph of programme. Chief Economic advisor Dr. Ananadi Subramanian and Joint Director Mrs. Urmila from secretariat, MoEF&CC along with team of secretariat and more than 500 peoples were witness for following different activities- The event compared by Dr. Suvarna Tikle, Senior Programme Officer, IITM. Dr. G. Beig, Project Director SAFAR & ENVIS coordinator, IITM, Pune addressed the gathering on Eco-friendly things. Song Tik Tik Plastic Tik na Paye Re recitation by "SAFAR" students. Dr. Anandi Subramanian, the chief guest appealed the students and the present public to adopt green ways of life to start use of cloth bags from today and stop use of plastic bags. Pledge against plastic pollution and to use eco-friendly things Skit on theme Stop plastic pollution' Prof. Dr. Meenakshi Dhote, SPA ENVIS coordinator gave massage to present public to stop single use plastic products. A rally around the entire Connaught place inner circle with slogans, posters and banners on beat plastic pollution was carried out with full enthusiasm. Mr. Rajeev Kumar, Senior Programme Officer, WWF and Mr. Vikee kumar, Information Officer, Sulabh inspired the kids, students, youth to work collectively for the protection of Earth Distribution of Booklets Concluded with refreshment, jute bags and caps distribution to the gathering. For the success of event we received great support from MoEF&CC. Special thanks to Kumar Rajnish sir, MoEF&CC, NDMC Enforcement Department, DCP office New Delhi district, Commissioner of Police, Delhi Police head quarter New Delhi and DCP Traffic police.
