2 Chinese A Chinese Language News Site that Directly Conveys the Japan of Today to the Greater China Region It has now been 5 years since launched its Chinese language news site Chinese which continues to grow in reputation as an influential media title for the Greater China Region of mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. In March 2013 became the first major newspaper in Japan to launch a Chinese language version of its website utilising its news network coverage to offer daily news focused on the economy and industry with analytical articles and columns. Especially in China it has been established among business persons as a valuable publication with reliable analytical skills. With information on the latest products and culture of Japan as well as fashion, this title also appeals to Chinese people who have an interest in Japanese culture, travel and shopping. In October 2015 we revamped the design of our website. Following that we also expanded the contribution of external columnists and improved the quality, quantity and variety of our online content which has resulted in an expansion of our readership. Chinese acts as a bridge between Japan and China and delivers insights on the Japan of today. We hope you choose to make use of this unique means of disseminating information to the Chinese market. 4 Through various international operations, contributes to the promotion of mutual understanding between Japan and China Northeast Asia Trilateral Forum (2006~) China s Xinhua news agency, South Korea s JoongAng Ilbo and are joint organizers of this annual event that rotates between the three countries. The conference has established itself as a channel for private dialogue between government leaders, scholars, influential businessmen and others from Japan, China and South Korea. It also contributed to the regular holding of the China-Japan-South Korea trilateral summit. Last year the 11th conference was held in Shizuoka, Japan with guests including former Japanese prime minister Yasuo Fukuda, former vice-premier of China Zeng Peiyan, and former Korean prime minister Lee Hong-koo in attendance. Japanese Speech Contest for Students in China (2006~) Against the backdrop of ever closer Sino-Japanese relations, there has been an increased fervour for learning Japanese in China. Aimed at Chinese students studying Japanese, jointly organised by China Education Association for International Exchange and The Society of Chinese Professors in Japan this is just one example of a yearly Japan-China exchange programs. Last year for the 11th annual speech contest over 8000 students joined the preliminary contest in 8 major cities in China to compete with their Japanese skills and eventually 16 passed through the qualifying stage to go on to the finals in Japan. Other Activities In collaboration with Tsinghua University, in 2006 we set up the Tsinghua- Media Research Institute. The centre researches topics such as the digitisation of newspapers/publications and the grouping of mass media companies within the industry as well as others. 3
