1 Event sponsorship opportunities The Tall Ships Races Sunderland 2018 For the first time in its history, Sunderland is set to welcome the world famous Tall Ships Races in the summer of 2018 from Wednesday 11 to Saturday 14 July. The city has the honour of being the start host port for the race series, welcoming around 80 vessels, 3,000 international crew members and with spectator numbers projected to reach 1.5 million across the course of the four day event. The positive economic benefit is expected to be between 21 and 28 million and the event will attract huge international media interest. The spectacle of The Tall Ships fleet on their first visit to Sunderland, coupled with the high level of publicity and visitor footfall, makes the event a truly unique sponsorship opportunity. SUNDERLAND INTERNATIONAL AIRSHOW Sunderland s stunning coastline provides the backdrop to a thrilling line up of flying displays over an action packed weekend. With a massive choice of exciting activities and entertainment on the ground, as well as the action in the sky, there s something for everyone to see and do at the Sunderland International Airshow. The magic and sparkle spreads as far as the eye can see, from installations by local artists, hidden fairies and dancing fountains, to an illuminated big wheel. Enjoy a stroll along the award winning seafront and through the beautiful Roker Park, the heart of the event, it s a great evening out for everyone. Sunderland Illuminations Now in its fifth year Sunderland Illuminations is hugely popular and well attended. The event takes place over a number of weeks and will run from 4 October to 5 November in 2017 with dates to be announced for The event incorporates festoon lighting along the seafront with a concentration of specific lighting features and activity at the Roker Park site. The overall event site is continually increasing thus enhancing the offer to event visitors and sponsors alike. With visitor numbers of over 210,000 recorded in 2016, the event is Sunderland s second largest annual visitor event after the Sunderland International Airshow.
