1 LULAC National Latinos Living Healthy Festival LULAC NATIONAL FERIA DE SALUD September 22, 2013 from 11:00 a.m 6:00 p.m. Olvera Street, El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument 125 Paseo de la Plaza, Los Angeles, CA Latinos Living Healthy engages the League of United Latin American Citizens' network of 135,000 community volunteers, organized into 900 councils and 56 community technology centers, in a health and wellness public education campaign. This initiative includes issue-based advocacy trainings, health education programs and community health festivals. LULAC s policy priorities focus on reducing health disparities, increasing access to quality & affordable health care for Latinos and have an emphasis on reducing childhood obesity. As part of our Latinos Living Healthy initiative, LULAC is planning its fourth in a series of Latinos Living Healthy Ferias de Salud. LULAC s Feria de Salud brings Latino community members, health professionals, major corporations, leading sports icons and key community leaders together to underscore the importance of incorporating health nutrition and fitness into the everyday lives of Latino families and children. Additionally, the health festival provides a great forum to disseminate key health resources and information to encourage Latino families to become active participants in creating sustainable healthy communities. The League of United Latin American Citizens and Latinos Living Healthy is proud to host the Feria de Salud on Sunday, September 22, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. 6:00 p.m. at El Pueblo de los Angeles Historical Monument and La Plaza de Cultura y Artes, 125 Paseo de la Plaza, Los Angeles, CA This event will gather families from across Los Angeles for a phenomenal day-long cultural festival focused on healthy eating, physical activity, and wellness while celebrating Latino cultural traditions. LULAC will provide a variety of health screenings, fun physical activity and healthy Mexican-American cuisine to celebrate Latino music, family, health and culture! The event is free and open to the public. Tentative Activities Include: Prominent National Latino music and entertainment Guest appearances from Los Angeles hit Spanish language radio Healthy cooking demonstrations by celebrity chefs Tips for preparing healthy Latin American recipes and shopping for nutritious food on a budget Sport tournaments for children Free health screenings: Blood pressure, glucose, glaucoma and eye exams, HIV testing, BMI and more Zumba LULAC s first series Latino Living Healthy festivals were tremendously popular in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Washington, D.C., and San Antonio, Texas. We expect over 10,000 attendees for this musical, family, health and wellness festival. The event is open to the general public and 10,000 participants attend the health exposition.
