3 WELCOME TO SANDGATE HAWKS SPORTING CLUB The Sandgate Football Club is an immensely proud club, which is and has been an integral part of Queensland Football since The Hawks have won 8 Premierships with the QAFL/BAFL competitions. In the 20 years leading up to the introduction of the Brisbane Bears, Sandgate was the most successful Australian Rules Club in Queensland. The success of individuals involved at the club has included Dick Verdon, Don Smith and John Stackpoole, who were selected in AFL Queensland s Team of the Century. Additionally, the Brisbane Lions Club Most Professional Player award has been named after Don Smith. Many of Queensland s greatest footballers have played for Sandgate with more than ten being inducted into the QLD Football Hall of Fame. Former Brisbane Lions premiership ruckman, Jamie Charman, was a Sandgate junior before being drafted to the AFL and in 2016 brothers Josh and Corey Wagner were drafted to Melbourne and North Melbourne. Today the club competes in the QAFL League competition and amongst its playing ranks are many bright stars of the future. Over 700 players compete in Senior Men, Women, Reserves, Colts, Masters and junior teams. Sandgate has established itself as the premier football club on the Brisbane north side and was awarded Club of The Year 2010 and has achieved level one Good Sports accreditation. The club is strategically located on a major growth corridor - Lemke Road, Taigum which runs from Bracken Ridge to Chermside Shopping Centre and has over 20,000 cars passing the facility each day. As a result Lemke Rd is currently undergoing a major upgrade to accommodate the ever increasing traffic. The fields are used forty weeks of the year for Senior and junior fixture matches and training sessions. The club is proud to announce a $300,000 upgrade to our playing surface that is due for completion in 2018 as well as major development work on our second oval. To compliment these improvements we are currently in negotiations to upgrade our training facilities to the tune of $700,000 putting our club to the forefront of services provided to AFL players. Additionally, as the only Australian Rules facility in the state with 3 ovals, it is regularly used by AFLQ for finals weekends and school carnivals. The club already has a membership base of over 4260 and with the 35 gaming machine licensed club facility open and thriving, now is the time for your business to join the future of our great club. Our overall goal is to make a valuable contribution to the local social fabric by contributing to health and wellbeing, inclusion, participation, volunteering, community building and development outcomes. Sport can play a positive role in improving physical and psychological wellbeing. Sport is an important part of Australian life; as such, sport clubs are the backbone of our local communities. We support each other in times of hardship, motivate each other to achieve our best, and together we celebrate our wins. Over the past 12 months alone we have experienced our ups and downs, all of which have helped to make our community stronger! Throughout the year Sandgate Hawks host a variety of community events and activities, ranging from weekly playgrounds, first aid courses, multicultural festivals, The Sandgate Gift, Oktoberfest, twilight markets, sports days, music festivals, and the list goes on. The sponsorship provides the necessary funds to support the football operations along with the maintenance of the buildings and grounds at the Lemke Rd facility.
