York St John Students Union (YSJSU) represents over 5,500 students situated in the City Centre of York. YSJ students are a diverse bunch, 65% are female and almost half are over the age of 21. Many of our students are home students meaning they have chosen to study in their own country, however we have a large International population, with students coming from all over the world to study at York St John University. YSJSU is able to offer your business the opportunity to reach out to a large captive audience who has a high disposable income of which millions of pounds are injected into the local economy each year. What type of advertising we use is very much dependent on what you are looking to advertise. Below are some options you may wish to consider. The SU Winter Extravaganza This year we will putting our massive winter/christmas themed party in the Students Union and offering companies the chance to come on campus, promote and simply join in on the celebrations throughout the day! Whether you just want to flyer and talk to students or want to sell your products get in touch! Freshers Fair The 2012 Freshers Fair is to be held on Wednesday September 19 th from 10am 4pm in the University Sports Hall. In 2011, the Freshers Fair attracted over 2,500 students with over 90 stalls present. It is our aim to make the Freshers Fair bigger and bigger each year. The Fair is one of the biggest events

2 of the year at York St John and it is a perfect opportunity for you to come and advertise your business to almost half of our student body in one day. There is no other exposure like this. It is up to you what you do at the Freshers Fair, be it data collection, flyer distribution or simply talking to as many students as you can. The possibilities are endless. Charity Stall (3ft x 3ft): 50 Standard stall (3ft x 3ft): 350 Platinum stall (6ft x 3ft): 500 Club/Bar stall (6ft x 3ft): 650 Promotional Stands Promotional stands are available throughout the year and are situated in the busy hub of the Students Union Reception or outside the Students Union in Union Square it s up to you! Promotional stands are a fantastic way to advertise your business to a large number of students in a short space of time and are guaranteed to generate interest in your business. They are also a great way of recruiting new members of staff, creating mailing lists and offering product samples. National Organisation: 300 per day Local Organisation: 150 per day Charity: 100 per day Digital Advertising YSJSU.com Our website is one of the most effective ways of communicating with the students of York St John University. The website not only offers all sorts of help and information but is also the most up-to-date way of letting students know what activities and events will be happening in the Students Union. YSJSU.com also allows us to communicate advertising messages in a variety of forms; this means you can choose the more effective way to suit you. Targeted The Students Union can send s via YSJSU.com to students who have signed up to the website (all students will be encouraged to do this). s can be targeted to specific student groups who you feel may be interested in your business. This can be by age, course, interests, sports club, societies etc. 10 per 100 students Posters, Flyers and Distribution Posters and flyers are still one of the most effective forms of communicating with our students. We have poster sites situated in highly visible areas throughout the Students Union, campus, halls of residence and within the University. We also have an SU Promo Team who go out weekly to flyer the Halls of Residence on behalf of the SU.

This ensures that no conflicting businesses will be able to overshadow your advertising and all unauthorised material will be disposed of. Plasma TV Screen Advertising Plasma screen advertising is one of the most new and innovative ways of advertising within the Students Union. Adverts are shown all day, every day on 42 plasma screens throughout the Students Union buildings. The majority of pictorial advertising will be done this way in 2012/ month: term: year: 900 Print advertising Your ad here! The Saint (Student Led Publication) The Saint is our only student led magazine, written for students by students. The magazine has undergone a huge redevelopment over the past six months and we are pleased to say it has been a great success. For the second issue of the magazine we are looking to have the magazine printed, therefore advertising has become an integral part of the publication. The Saint has a projected readership of 2,000 with another 1,000 reading the magazine online. This is a great way to get your business noticed by our students in a new publication that will, without a doubt cause a tremendous amount of excitement throughout the student population. Events There are many opportunities throughout the year to get your business noticed by thousands of students by sponsoring some of the major events we hold each year. In the past, businesses such as Topman, Domino s Pizza and Burtons have benefited from extra exposure that our sponsorship provides. Sponsorship packages can include poster/flyer branding, social media consultancy, presence at the event itself, visual branding the possibilities are endless!! Just some of the campaigns we run are: Silent Students, Happy Homes (SSHH!), More Than Just a Bar, Silence is Golden and Happy Campus. All campaigns ran by YSJSU are available to sponsor. Again, sponsorship packages are tailor made to your needs and the campaign you wish to support. Video Campaign The Students Union is developing its presence on YouTube by making videos for the students. We have a number of video series that are available to sponsor: Ask Dan: a series of education videos, 20 videos per year over 2,000 views to date Soapbox: videos based on a question, to get the thoughts of students and local residents Event Videos: teaser trailer videos for Students Union events Sports and Societies At York St John Students Union we over 40 groups who are seeking sponsorship for the 2012/2013 academic year. These groups range from sports clubs such as Football, Rugby and Hockey, to societies such as Musical Production Society and Snow sports, to student groups such as Ents and Ethics and Environment. In return for sponsorship money, these student groups will promote your business and use your services. As each group is different, so is each sponsorship package.

5 Social Media Consultancy Social Media is a new and growing method of advertising. We are offering social media consultancy. To date we have 3,211 likes on our York St John Students Union Facebook and 1,138 on YSJSU What s On Facebook. We have 1,002 followers Twitter and 403 follows We can post on behalf of your business to these social media outlets on a regular basis, as well as advise you on when the best time to post yourselves is, what you should be posting and how often you should be doing it. All social media consultancy is price on enquiry. We do not allow businesses to post as themselves on our Facebook page and we do not retweet businesses who request us to if they have not paid to do so. 1 week of Facebook and Twitter weeks of Facebook and Twitter month It is our top priority to ensure that our students have the best time at York St John by making the most of what York has to offer!
