4 We were pleased to be part of one of Rochdale s most prestigious events again. We aim to support our local communities, and Rochdale Literature & Ideas Festival provides the perfect platform to promote reading and learning, offering something for all ages and tastes. Dwayne Wells, Commercial Development Manager, First Manchester Origins of the festival The festival is due to the generosity of Annie and Frank Maskew, a Rochdale couple who shared a passion for reading and thinking, who originally met in Rochdale Library in the 1950s. They left a sum of money to be used on resources and events related to literature and philosophy to ensure classic works are available for future generations. Organised by Rochdale Borough Council, Rochdale Literature & Ideas Festival is the flagship event to promote the prestigious Maskew Collection, so a partnership can also enable companies to achieve corporate social responsibility objectives. Demographics The Rochdale Literature & Ideas Festival audience offers events targeted at families, young people and year olds typically. All ages are represented in our audiences as the programme offers something for everyone. Visitors enjoy books, drama, comedy, music, films and the arts! As well as the borough of Rochdale, people travel to the festival from across the North West.
