3 LEGAL BACKGROUND Law on Agriculture and Rural Development (OG RS No 41/09); Law on Subsidies in Agriculture and Rural Development (OG RS No 10/13); Law on Veterinary Medicine (OG RS No 91/05, 30/10); Law on Animal Husbandry (OG of RS No 41/09, 93/12); Law on Food Safety (OG RS No 41/09); * Rulebooks based on these laws

5 BASIC INFORMATION Sheep are mainly kept for meat Goats are mainly for milk Import of live animals, mainly for breeding (60 head of sheep and 900 goats in 2013) Since 2009 constant growth in export of live sheep ( heads in 2013) Mainly dual sheep breeds (Cigaja, Pramenka), but they are used mainly for meat and wool, less for milk There are farms specialized for milk production

10 MARKETING Majority of sheep have been slaughtered on households (95% of total slaughter) Slaughter increases during specific time of year (related to some religious holidays) There are no system of public interventions or private aid

11 SLAUGHTERHOUSES There are no slaughterhouses with export licence for EU Slaughter is under control of official veterinarians There is no carcass classification system 398 slaughterhouses can slaughter sheep and goats Average 3 to 5 % of total slaughtered animals are slaughtered in slaughterhouses

12 INFORMATION COLLECTION In 2012, agricultural census was conducted after 50 years Slaughter data from slaughterhouses is available on monthly level Total number of slaughtered animals is estimated at the end of each year Production forecast is not carried out Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia: publishe data on monthly level (prices of live animals and price of meat in retail shops) STIPS (Market Information System, organised by Ministry of Agriculture) publish market prices for lambs and other categorie of sheep at live markets in the Republic of Serbia on weekly level

13 EXPORT/IMPORT EU-no export or import licence for meat There are no quota for meat export Almost all trade is among CEFTA countries Export of live animals mainly to Bosnia and Herzegovina WTO- the Republic of Serbia is in process of negotiations.

14 IMPORT/EXPORT All export of meat to Montenegro Imports of meat from New Zealand and FYR of Macedonia Trade of sheep and goat meat in period in tones Source:SORS

15 SUPPORT MEASURES Milk premium, per liter of milk. For every liter purchased by dairies 0,5 euro cent per liter RSD (65 ) per breeding animal per year. No limits in animal number. Only for females RSD (18 ) for every head that is slaughtered in slaughterhouses. Minimum 10 heads, average weight no more then 50 kg
