2 Family Farms Own most of the land they farm. However, as farms get larger, more farmers are renting land from others. Own the buildings, livestock, and machinery to produce the crops. However, today many farms are having their crops planted and/or harvested by others. Provide most of the labor to operate the farm. Family members all contribute to the labor needs

3 Family Farms Make decisions on what to plant, how to plant, what livestock to raise and how to care for them. Make management and marketing decisions They are also at risk for profit or losses from their farm Many family farms also depend on off farm income for family living and insurance
