Contacted and visited following school districts: Avon, Cal-Mum, Le Roy, Geneseo, Honeoye Falls, and others Similar work force Fields in comparable shape Varsity fields are generally only used by the School District 3

Wheatland-Chili CSD employs: One full-time person One part-time person, four hours per day Examples of grounds tasks: Mowing and Trimming: One person eight hours per day in the grass growing season to maintain the grass cutting Plowing and Snow Removal: One person approx. six hours to clear the snow on the campus in a two-inch scenario/ much more time for more snow Gutter Cleaning Athletic Field maintenance Shrub and flower bed care/tree removal Care of fields year round for S.A.A. and town leagues 4

Painting / Marking Athletic Fields: Fields maintained by painting them weekly (six hours) How to Apply: Currently done by small walk behind and spray cans of paint Equipment suggested: Automatic paint machine at the cost of $4, The labor time used would be reduced and the amount of paint the machine uses is far less due to using five-gallon buckets of paint and not separate spray cans. Will not have to paint as often with use of machine (less paint, less man hours, less applications) 5

Suggested Remedy Cost: Materials: $4, ($3,525 aerosol white, $350 chalk, $460 rapid dry) + inflation (N/A) Suggested Equipment: Paint marking machine, $4, Labor: It currently takes six hours to paint a soccer field and one and one-half hours for baseball field markings TOTAL COST: $8, labor efficiency differential (less paint and man hours) Outcome: Labor costs and paint costs would be reduced 6

Industry Standard: Irrigation systems on fields Water Cannons Labor intensive and cannot reach all areas of the fields Used during the day when it is the least effective (hot daily temperatures cause evaporation of the water) Water gauges have been installed on both the varsity baseball and varsity soccer fields; will be maintained to assure that each field receives an inch of rain per week 7

Suggested Remedy Cost: Materials: Water Suggested Equipment: Estimate of $70,000 to install irrigation systems on both the varsity soccer field ($40,000) and the baseball field ($30,000) Labor: Labor cost would be eliminated by moving from water cannons to an irrigation system TOTAL COST: $70,000 + utilities Outcome: Labor cost eliminated 8

Capital Project Considerations: Add irrigation system to varsity baseball field, infield only Continue to utilize water cannons on other fields TOTAL COST: $30,000 + utilities 9

Purpose Smooth the surface Control thatch Develop new root zone Protect crowns Product Contains: sand, silt, and clay How to Apply: aerate first, then apply top dressing mixture Equipment Required: Top Dressing Machine (borrowed) Frequency: Recommended light applications at frequent intervals (at least once/year) Success measured by quality of sand/mix, applying at proper rates and intervals 10

Suggested Remedy Cost: Materials: Area the size of a soccer field 80 tons of material (sand /silt /clay mix) = $3,000 to $4, depending on the mix needed Equipment: We can borrow top dressing equipment from Rush-Henrietta, reducing costs of renting or purchasing Labor: One day, two people TOTAL COST: $3, labor Outcome: Better quality fields 11

Agreement within the industry that the way to take care of the fields without weed control (i.e., the use of pesticides) is by overseeding Frequency: The recommendation is to overseed every week and if possible after every game At a minimum, this should occur two times a year Goal mouths and areas that have more use should be overseeded more frequently Equipment Needed: slit seeder The ratio of grass germinating if not introduced to the ground by a slit seeder is only 50% 12

Suggested Remedy Cost: Materials: Cost of seed to overseed the area of a soccer field is approximately $ All fields and ornamental areas approximately $2,000.00/year for seed Suggested Equipment: Slit Seeder Machine $14, Labor: N/A (Current method by hand, but new machine will cut labor cost dramatically) TOTAL COST: $15,025 + labor Outcome: Reduces amount of weeds, better quality turf 13

Industry standard of nine additional man hours per week (per field) to maintain clay due to the effects of the no pesticides regulations Most districts are using grooming equipment to maintain their baseball clay Suggested Remedy Cost Materials: We currently purchase approx tons of clay at $85.00 a ton per year. Should remain the same. Equipment: Drag mats and brushes, Hitch Tiller at a cost of $ 3, Labor: nine additional man hours per week to maintain clay TOTAL COST: $4, Labor Outcome: Better groomed clay 14

Most important aspect of field maintenance is to avoid overuse Goal mouths deteriorate from overuse, incurring material and labor costs as a result Goal mouths need to be replaced by removing old sod and installing new sod. There is insufficient time for the goals to take hold and rest before they are currently used again For example, some school districts in the area (Rush- Henrietta) have game playing fields, fields that are just resting and recouping, and fields that are for practice only Rush-Henrietta fields are not utilized by outside groups (including the town) The District has a commitment to partner with the Town and permit the Town to utilize District fields at no cost 15

Seed Slicer: $14, Tiller, clay groomer: $4, Paint marking machine: $4, Material Cost : $5, *Yearly Total (one-time equipment purchase): $23, Total (annual cost): $5, Grand Total: $28,000 16
