Swaminathan Research Foundation, Chennai Following is a brief account of the work done in the project during the quarter, October December 2016, on various thematic areas: 1. Institutional Building: 1729 samiti members across 60 villages have actively participated in gramsabhas held in October and November Many of the issues raised by samiti members are common which are as follows a. Scarcity of safe drinking water b. Demand for dug well, soak pit and gharkul c. use of 10% of panchayat income for women and children d. Formation of committees for Total sanitation in village. Samiti members from village Vihirgaon, Sheli and Zargad of Ralegon block again submitted the memorandum to the Executive Engineer of PWD to repair the road so that State Transport (ST) connects their villages with bus transportation. The government officials assured them to repair the road by March It is the condition from ST that unless the road is repaired the villages cann t be connected with bus. Samiti members from Amboda village gave a memorandum to gramsabha requesting to stop the flowing waste water from a house on the road. VHNSC supported the memorandum. As a result of this the waste water was stopped. Samiti members from Paloti from Wardha block village raised the issue of having meter on tap in their gramsabha. As a result of this the meter on tap of all households was fitted in which is helping them to stop wastage of water and have availability of water for 24x7. 1

3 Mr. Shailesh Naval, Collector, Wardha visited CFC at Lonsavali on 25 th October He had the in depth discussion with sanchalan samiti members of CFC. He liked the idea of having implements centre in a village. He, therefore had the discussion with the Project Coordinator of MKSP and asked to set up 10 more CFCs in Wardha and Deoli taluka with the support of government funds. As a result of this the process of setting up of 10 new CFCs in the area of operation of MSSRF started. 10 CFCs would cost around 18 lakh. Convergence to the tune of Rs /- happened under agriculture, health and social welfare schemes in the project. Much of the convergence happened through samitis who forwarded individual proposals to the concerned departments. All three federations have played a crucial role in creating awareness to samitis. MSSRF has established three Common Facility Centers (Custom Hiring Centers) in three villages. This quarter 210 women farmers have availed the services through which the rent to the tune of Rs /- is generated. Based on the complaints received from samitis from Krishnapur and Takli of Ralegaon block Ralegaon Federation lodged complaints with police station regarding molestation of two women farmers from Krishnapur and Takli by local male persons. As a result of this they were arrested and punnished and then released by police. Indira Meshram, President of Ralegaon Federation was invited as a Trainer by a group of some male farmers of her two adjoining non MKSP villages to give demonstration on Jeevamruth and Neemastra. So she gave the demonstrations which were attended by about 50 farmers. In turn Indira Meshram received Rs.500/- a day as remuneration. 2.
