PATIL KRISHI VIGYAN KENDRA, HULKOTI GADAG DISTRICT, KARNATAKA STATE Monthly e-news Letter Month: October, 208 Issue: 3 CELEBRATION OF MAHILA KISSAN DIWAS AND WORLD FOOD DAY-208 ICAR-K.H.Patil Krishi Vigyan Kendra celebrated Mahila Kissan Diwas and World Food Day on The progamme was inaugurated by Smt. Prema Meti, Progressive farm woman and woman entrepreneur, Gadag. She talked about various farm activities carried out by women starting from land preparation to storage of grains. Further, she said that the farm women need to adopt various technologies in agriculture and allied fields like Rain Water Harvesting, Intercropping, Integrated Farming System, Organic Farming for sustainability in farming system. In addition to agriculture, farm women need to take up subsidiary occupations like dairy farming, sheep & goat rearing, poultry farming for enhancing the family income and for improving the livelihood of their family. The programme was presided over by Dr.L.G.Hiregoudar, Senior Scientist and Head and he spoke on Role of women in doubling farm women. In this context, farm women need to undergo capacity building programmes and technical guidance from ICAR-K.H.Patil Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hulkoti. On this occasion, the progressive farm women viz., Smt. Anusuya Talabal, Abbigeri village of Ron taluk, Smt.Vijayalaxmi Pawadshetti, Savadi village of Ron taluk, Smt.Prathibha Navalgund, Shirol village of Naragund taluk, Smt. Laxmi Holige, Soratur village, Gadag taluk were felicitated. During Mahila Kisan Diwas celebration, quiz competition, speech competition and exhibition were organised and the prizes were distributed to the winners. More than 200 farm women participated in the programme. CELEBRATION OF ONION FIELD DAY ICAR-K.H.Patil Krishi Vigyan Kendra and Karnataka State Department of Horticulture jointly organised field day in Onion crop under Capacity building of FPOs on at Shagoti village of Gadag block. The programme was organised at Shri Mahadev Neelappagoudar s farm where onion demonstration was conduted with a special focus on Weed Management, Integrated Crop Management and Integrated Nutrient Management. Shri Shailendra Biradar, Senior Assistant Director of Horticulture spoke on importance of adopting various improved technologies for increasing the production as well as In this Issue..... 2 for raising farmers income. Further, he briefed about various horticulture schemes available for the farming community for enhancing the farmers income. Shri S.H.Adapur, SMS (Ag.Extension) briefed about the need of capacity building of FPOs as well as the importance of field days. More than 75 farmers participated in the field day FIELD DAY IN CITRUS CROP On , the Department of Horticulture (SUJALA) has conducted field day on Citrus crop. KVK Horticulture Scientist Ms. Hemavati Hiregoudar participated as Resource Person and delivered lecture on cultivation of Citrus fruits and ICM practices in Citrus and Horticulture crops. Many Progressive farmers and Horticulture Officers participated in the field day. VIGILANCE AWARENESS WEEK-208 ICAR-K.H.Patil Krishi Vigyan Kendra has implemented the observance of Vigilance Awareness week from 29 th October to 3 rd November, 208 with a focus on Eradicate Corruption-Build a New India. On this theme, Krishi Vigyan Kendra organised various programmes mainly, Integrity Pledge, competitions to school childrens, distribution of leaflets, sensitization on ill-effects of corruption and preventive measures to school children, seminars, workshops and debates.

3 TRAINING OF EXTENSION FUNCTIONARIES One day training to Anganwadi Teacher working in Karantaka State Department of Women and Child Welfare was organised on importance of millets in diet and healthy food for healthy life at KVK on The programme was inagurated by Smt. Akkamahadevi, Programme Officer, Department of Women and Child Welfare, Gadag District. The trainees were briefed about food & nutrients, millet nutrition, iron deficiencey, anaemia etc. Film show on deficiency diseases was screened to the trainees. Further, an exposure visit was arranged to Ethnic Food Café at KVK Premises. Thirty Anganwadi Teachers working in Gadag block participated in this training. FELICITATION TO INNOVATIVE FARMERS OF GADAG DISTRICT Shri S.H.Adapur, SMS (Ag.Extension) of ICAR-K.H.Patil Krishi Vigyan Kendra along with two innovative farmers of the district participated in the Farmers Science Congress organised by Institute of Agricultural Technologies, Bangalore. Innovative farmers exhibited their innovativeness and were feliciated for their innovations made in the field of agriculture. Mr. Shivaputrappa Ullagaddi of Mundaragi block developed Hand Operated Weeeder cum Intercultivation equipment. The implement reduces the cost incurred for intercultivation and reduces the cost spent on hiring of bullocks and labours at the rate of Rs.5000/- per acre. The implement is more suitable for small and marginal farmers. Another farmer Shri Veeranagouda Jakkanagoudar of Hirehandigol village of Gadag block developed Gunny bag holder stand for packing of dry chillies. The packing of dry chillies in gunny bag requires more labour. To reduce this cost the use of stand reduces the labour cost, packing will be neat as well as additional quanitity of 5 Kgs can be packed compared to traditional practice. About gunny bags can be filled and packed in one hour compared to 0-2 bags in traditional method. The cost of the implement is Rs.2,800/-. More than 30 farmers of the same village have used this implement for packing of dry chillies.
