8 8 SEEDBED PREPARATION AGRONOMIC BENEFITS REMOVE LAYERS If you are transitioning from conventional tillage to vertical tillage or no-till, the first step is to remove all density layers. Density layers are caused by plowing, disking, and field cultivating (horizontal tillage). To achieve the desired results, you must shatter the ground horizontally between the shanks a minimum of 6" below the surface. Point design that promotes fracture without blowout is important as well. In general, your depth needs to be half of your shank spacing (13" to 15" deep for 30" spacing). If your top soil won t allow 15" depth, consider 24" spacing with 10" to 12" depth. Before MAXIMUM VERTICAL TILLAGE TURBO-MAX The introduction of Turbo-Max brings true vertical tillage to new heights. The ability to provide unmatched seedbeds through aggressive ground leveling and weed removal, enhanced residue sizing, and unsurpassed residue coverage makes Turbo-Max truly unique in the industry today. Turbo- Max, with its 7-1/2" blade spacing and hydraulically-adjustable gang angle from 0 to 6, continues to work in a vertical plane through all aspects of operation, providing the answer to today s producers looking for all of the advantages of true vertical tillage in one piece of equipment. Auto Reset Spring features 3000 lb. load capacity (also available as shear bolt configuration) Available with Standard 3-Point Mount as well as Optional SSH Hitch (shown) Before - Compaction layers from horizontal tillage tools stop natural water movement as well as restrict root growth. After - Compaction layers are destroyed and the soil profile is reset, allowing roots, water and nutrients to travel unrestricted in the soil. MANAGE RESIDUE When density layers are not present but residue management is needed, a pass with a vertical tillage tool like Turbo-Till, Turbo-Chopper, or Turbo-Max will not only size residue but also maintain a uniform density. These machines also work great in a no-till operation to manage residue without burying a lot of residue. A shallow, vertical tillage tool needs to do several things well. It needs to: 1. Open up the soil profile to allow water to be absorbed instead of running off. 2. Size residue into planter-manageable pieces. 3. Not add horizontal layers. 4. The transport width is a narrow 13 feet, making it one of the narrowest in the industry. Both Hydraulic Weight Transfer and Hydraulic Down Pressure ensure the drill penetrates the ground evenly and consistently. Utilizes 10HD Openers for rugged dependability. This opener can be operated with or without coulters, tailoring the drill to the farmer's needs. Choose either the 220-bushel ADC2220 (below) or the 350-bushel ADC2350 cart (arrow) HEAVY-DUTY AIR DRILL Use of the 10HD Series Opener has been expanded to include the 3N-4010HDA No-Till Air Implement. This implement utilizes a floating tongue and 12 degrees of wing flex up and down to follow contours and negotiate uneven terrain. Auger Both Loads and Unloads Seed Hopper. Hydraulic Weight Transfer uses the fold cylinders to transfer weight to the wings during field operation while keeping the weight on the center section for safe transport. Independent Coulter /Opener Depth allows coulters to be raised or lowered to match the needs of the conditions: Lower coulters to penetrate heavy residue or tough no-till conditions or raise them for softer minimum-till situations. FIELD PROVEN The field-proven design of the NTA-3010 and NTA-3510 centers around a direct 2-point link between the implement and the cart. This integral design features a semi-mounted link between the cart and implement, allowing the implement to raise and lower independent of the cart as it crosses undulations in the field. In addition, the front implement wheels are in line with the cart wheels and rear implement wheel casters, allowing the operator to easily back into tight corners or sheds. The hydraulic weight transfer system further enhances flexibility and ensures equal weight is available to all rows. Match the implement with either the 350-bushel ADC2350 cart or the 220-bushel ADC2220 cart. ¼ Offset, 4mm-Thick Disc Blades with 205mm, Double-Lip-Seal Bearings ensure long life and excellent penetration.

44 44 INVESTING IN THE FUTURE New Tube Laser Increased Productivity To increase production capacity and efficiency, a new Mazak FabriGear 220 tube laser was installed in a new addition to our main production plant in Salina. The laser, built in Japan, came through the Long Beach Port in California before making its way to Great Plains on four separate trucks in June, Once here, it took two factory technicians approximately four weeks to assemble and bring the laser online in late July. During its installation, four operators and two programmers focused on training in Chicago. The Mazak FG 220 is a 4000-watt, six-axis laser that is capable of handling 40' long tubes that are round, square, or rectangular. It also has a machining head that will allow us to drill and tap holes in the middle of tubes and can be run around the clock. We continually strive to get quality products to the market faster! Tillage Plant Expansion Speed and Quality A quality paint job goes deeper than making farm equipment look good on the dealer s lot. Reducing paint chipping, rust, and corrosion are equally important to a quality paint job. That s why Great Plains recently made large capital investments in new state-of-the-art paint systems in two of our Salina plants. Our new shot plaster and oxidation process cleans implement parts and component of fragments that gather during the welding and manufacturing process, creating a cleaner surface before the parts enter the primary and finish paint line. Once through the paint line, they enter a large bake oven which cures the paint at 240 degrees. The new paint lines allow us to paint two times faster than in the past and paint multiple large components at same time again increasing capacity while improving quality.
