Name of Country and Organization Paraguay Paraguayan Institute of Agricultural Technology (IPTA) Name of PI (Position) Francisco Vallejos (Head of Soil Program) Title of Project

Project Goal(s) Stabilized food crop production and balanced soil nutrient management by securing organic fertilizer for family and small holder farms in Latin America Detailed Goal(s) Given the limited time and resources intended results of the project should focus on the "pilot" experiences of the proposed areas and a limited number of organic waste and food crops (*). (*) Plan proposed in Paraguay. Presented in Starting Process Report. Organic Fertilizer Program. Paraguay. In: The KoLFACI 2015 Woskshop on Latin America's Agriculture Development and Starting Process of KoLFACI Projects. p

Original Plans Modification Reasons for Modification Basic fertilization management manual for small holder farms. A document generated organic with guidelines for the development and application of fertilizers of organic origin for cropping systems of the "pilot" experiences of the proposed areas (*). Limited time, because as field activities were not started, there s not sufficient experience of project to develop the document. To have the necessary information would have to be appealed to the rescue of local experiences from other sources. The proposed is organizing a seminar from the information gathered the document would be prepared.

Original Plans Modification Reasons for Modification Establishing the supply chain of organic fertilizer for each member country. Establishing a supply chain of organic fertilizers and rescue of successful experiences that serve as models for other initiatives in the country (*). Limited time, which would hardly be enough for the supply chain is geared compost from waste organic sugar manufacturing and other similar successful experiences in the country rescue project.

Qualitative Goals Year Goals 1) A document generated with guidelines for the development and application of fertilizers of organic origin for cropping systems of the "pilot " experiences of the proposed areas. 3 rd Year (2017/2018) 2) Establishing a supply chain of organic fertilizers and rescue of successful experiences that serve as models for other initiatives in the country.

Quantitative Goals Categories Education & Training Plan Seminar on: "Experiences in the use of organic fertilizers." Aimed at technicians, university students and producers. Outcome of Technology Distribution Consultation for Farmer Publication on Farming Technology Technical lectures and field days on selected among the members of the Manduvirá Cooperative farms. Seminar documents printed. Leaflets and leaves disclosure.

3. Overview of Third Year Project Outcome Project Outcome Impacts Manduvirá Cooperative: The Manduvirá Cooperative and organic sugar factory is owned by small farmers. Benefits from technical and commercial assistance to 998 primary producers, with their families totaling 4,750 people, representing 21% of the district population. In the area of influence of the Cooperative has 3,300 certified organic cane sugar are planted. A significant number of laborers earn their income from planting, tending and harvesting sugar cane.

3. Overview of Third Year Project Outcome Project Outcome Impacts Organic sugar factory: Export sugar certified organic and Fair Trade to 17 countries. - Hire 140 people directly during the production season. - Its milling capacity is 1,000 t / day of sugar cane. During the harvest occur between 35 to 40 t / day of organic waste, the main filter cake and boiler ash, originating from burning bagasse is counted. Representing 5,000 to 7,000 t / harvest of organic waste in the environment. There of can produce 2,500 to 3,500 tons of compost / harvest, this equates to US $ a of compost, that would be enough to pay 400 to 600 has sugarcane. Using compost as fertilizer is expected to increase from 10% yield of sugarcane. This represents an increase of US $ 100,000 to in gross income from fertilized land.
