7 Regional Aquatic Animal Health Programme PURPOSE Improve regional cooperation to reduce risks of aquatic animal disease impacting on livelihoods of aquaculture farmers, national economies, trade and human health.

9 AQUATIC ANIMAL HEALTH PROGRAMME The longest running (and considered as flagship) programme of NACA Outputs: 1. Regional and international cooperation in aquatic animal health improved 2. Practical national strategies developed, adopted and implemented in member countries 3. Surveillance, reporting and response to disease emergencies in the region improved 4. Harmonized diagnostic procedures and approaches to risk assessment developed in the region 5. Widespread adoption of better aquatic animal health management practices in the region

10 Regional Aquatic Animal Health Programme Works closely with international, regional and national organizations:

11 Regional Aquatic Animal Health Programme AGM 9 Asia Regional Advisory Group on Aquatic Animal Health (AG) Composed of invited aquatic animal disease experts and representatives from World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), collaborating regional organizations, and the private sector. 12 Aquatic Animal Health Current and Recent Activities Asia Regional Advisory Group on Aquatic Animal Health (Ongoing) Donors NACA Meets annually (facilitated by NACA) to address several issues: Disease status in the region; Implementation of health management strategies and TG; Other related issues on AAH; Revises the list of diseases for regional reporting system (QAAD); Advises Asian governments and NACA on current aquatic animal health issues and concerns.

14 Quarterly Aquatic Animal Disease (QAAD) Reporting System: Asia-Pacific Regional Aquatic Animal Health Programme First published in the 3 rd quarter of 1998; Includes all OIE-listed diseases plus diseases of regional importance;

15 Aquatic Animal Health Current and Recent Activities Quarterly Aquatic Animal Disease Reporting (QAAD) (Ongoing) Donors NACA Serves as early warning system for emerging diseases/pathogens in the Asia- Pacific Region Disease Year Listed QAAD OIE Infection with koi herpesvirus Infection with abalone herpesvirus White tail disease (MrNV) Infectious Myonecrosis Necrotising hepatopancreatitis Now on its 15 th year, QAAD has been a useful mechanism for recognising emerging and important aquatic animal diseases in the region, and guide to participating countries in revising their national list of reportable diseases. Excellent regional networking in support of aquatic animal disease surveillance was also established through this
