2 Greening The Greening Payment will be paid at a flat rate per Hectare in each region, and separate from Basic Payment. Failure to comply with Greening will result in the loss of part or all of the Greening Payment. From 2017, penalties will also apply which could which could result in a loss of up to a further 25% of the Greening payment deducted from the Basic Payment. Non-compliance of Greening will be costly.

4 Ecological Focus Areas - EFA <15Ha Arable Land Exempt > 15Ha Arable Land 5% Arable Land put into EFA >75% of Arable land is TGRS or Fallow or Legumes & the remaining arable crop is <30Ha Exempt >75% of Total Land is PGRS or TGRS & the remaining arable crop is <30Ha Exempt If all land claimed is certified as Organic Exempt.

5 EFA Options Fallow weighting factor x1 therefore 1Ha land = 1Ha EFA Must be arable land and be on your holding (claimed on your SAF) No Agri Production 15 th January to 15 th July, inc no fertiliser/herbicides. No maintenance such as drainage during closed period. Must not Top during closed period. You can change the ground cover to establish WBS, grass or wild flower mixes. Buffer Strips weighting factor x 1.5 therefore 1Ha land = 1.5Ha EFA Must be on or adjacent to arable land. Must provide a buffer to a water course or water body. Between 2-20m wide (meet GAEC conditions no cultivation within 2m of hedges and watercourses). No Agri production 1 st January to 31 st December inc no fertiliser/herbicides. Can be cut & removed (silage/hay) but cannot be grazed. You can change the ground cover to establish WBS, grass or wild flower mixes.

6 EFA Options Field Margins - weighting factor x 1.5 therefore 1Ha land = 1.5Ha EFA Must be on or adjacent to arable land. Between 1-20m wide (meet GAEC conditions no cultivation within 2m of hedges and watercourses). Can be around the margin of a field or split 2 crops within a field. No Agri production 1 st January to 31 st December inc no fertiliser/herbicides. Cannot be grazed or cut during the closed period. You can change the ground cover to establish WBS, grass or wild flower mixes.

7 EFA Options Catch/Green Cover - weighting factor x 0.3 therefore 1Ha land = 0.3Ha EFA Must be arable land and be on your holding (claimed on your SAF) Must be established between 1 st March and 1 st October. Catch (green cover) crop will be under sown grass. Green cover (catch) crop must be a mixture of at least 2 of the following; Rye, Vetch, Phacelia, Barley, Mustard, Oats, Lucerne (Alfalfa). NO BRASSICAS!! You can graze the catch crop after harvest of the main crop. You can retain the green cover crop until later in Spring to provide winter cover. Nitrogen Fixing Crops - weighting factor x 0.7 therefore 1Ha land = 0.7Ha EFA Must be arable land and be on your holding (claimed on your SAF) Must be associated with an EFA Field Margin You must grow one of the following NFC; Lucerne (Alfalfa), Beans, Birdsfoot Trefoil, Chickpea, Clover, Faba Bean, Lentil, Lupin, Pea (vining/dry/silage), Vetch. The crop must not be harvested before 1 st August.
