5 DIRECTIONS FOR USE IMPORTANT: This information is approved as part of the Product Label. All instructions within this section must be read carefully in order to obtain safe and successful use of this product. DISEASE CONTROL Furlong contains cyproconazole (a DMI fungicide) and picoxystrobin (a QoI fungicide) and controls a range of diseases of wheat, barley, oats, oilseed rape and sugar beet. At the recommended rate of application, Furlong is active against the following diseases: Crop Disease Level of control UK Ireland Septoria leaf blotch MC R Wheat Septoria glume blotch C MC Yellow rust C C Brown rust C C Rhynchosporium R R Barley Net blotch MC MC Brown Rust C C Oats Crown rust C C Oilseed rape Sclerotinia MC MC Cercospora Leaf spot MC MC Sugar beet, Ramularia leaf spot MC MC Fodder beet Powdery mildew C C (Ireland only) Rust C C Key; C = Control, MC = Moderate Control, R = Reduction DISEASE RESISTANCE When fungicides with the same mode of action are used repeatedly over several years in the same field, naturally occurring less sensitive strains may survive, propagate and become dominant in that field. A pathogen is considered resistant to a fungicide if it survives a correctly applied treatment at the recommended dose and timing, under normal weather conditions. Development of resistance within a pathogen can be avoided or delayed by alternating or mixing products having a different mode of action. The Fungicide Resistance Action Group has produced guidelines on the management and avoidance of fungicide resistance. Details of these can be obtained from your supplier or DuPont. Furlong contains picoxystrobin, a member of the QoI cross resistance group. Furlong should be used preventatively and should not be relied upon for its curative potential. Use Furlong as part of an Integrated Crop Management (ICM) strategy incorporating other methods of control, including where appropriate other fungicides with a different mode of action. You must not apply more than two foliar applications of QoI containing products to any cereal crop.

6 There is a significant risk of widespread resistance to the QoIs occurring in Septoria tritici/ Mycosphaerella graminicola (Septoria leaf blotch) populations in the UK and Ireland. Failure to follow resistance management action may result in reduced levels of disease control. Furlong contains cyproconazole, a member of the DMI fungicide group. Resistance to some DMI fungicides has been identified in Septoria tritici/ Mycosphaerella graminicola (Septoria leaf blotch) which may seriously affect the performance of some products. For further advice on resistance management in DMIs and QoIs contact your agronomist, specialist advisor or TEAGASC and visit the FRAG-UK website. CROPS Furlong can be used on all winter and spring varieties of wheat, barley, oats, oilseed rape, sugar beet and fodder beet (Ireland only) Wheat, barley, oats Furlong may be applied at 1 L/ha at up to the end of flowering (GS 69) on wheat and end of heading (GS 59) on barley and oats. Best results will be achieved from applications made as a protectant treatment or in the earliest stages of disease development. Oilseed rape Furlong may be applied at 1 L/ha up to the flowering declining stage, where the majority of petals have fallen (GS 67). For optimal control of Sclerotinia, Furlong should be applied as a protectant spray during flowering. The optimum timing is early to mid flowering (GS60 GS63). Good agricultural practice suggests that Furlong should be used when bees are less active i.e. early morning or late evening. Sugar Beet and Fodder beet (Ireland only) Furlong may be applied at 1 L/ha up to 6 weeks before harvest. TIMING Furlong controls diseases most effectively when diseases are at low levels and before they spread to new growth. On wheat, barley, oats and sugar beet a second application can be repeated after 3-4 weeks if necessary. It is advised to avoid spraying within 5 metres of the field boundary to reduce effects on non-targets insects or other arthropods.(uk only) DOSE Apply Furlong at up to 1 L/ha in l/ha water using spraying equipment to give good even coverage of the crop. The higher volumes are recommended when the crop is dense.

7 MIXING Furlong containers should be shaken well before use. Furlong mixes easily with water and should be added directly to the spray tank during filling. Wash out container and add washings to the spray tank. Continue agitation during filling and when spraying. SPRAYER CLEANING Thoroughly wash out sprayer according to manufacturer s guidelines and dispose of washings and clean containers according to DEFRA Code of Practice (UK only) and local Water Authority guidelines.
