PATIL KRISHI VIGYAN KENDRA, HULKOTI GADAG DISTRICT, KARNATAKA STATE Monthly e-news Letter Volume: 1 Month: vember, 2018 Issue: 4 SEMINAR ON CUSTARD APPLE CROP ICAR-K.H.Patil Krishi Vigyan Kendra organised Seminar on Cultivation of Custard Apple on The programme was inaugurated by Shri H.K.Patil, MLA, Gadag. He addressed the farmers to take up various alternative horticulture crops as farmers in Gadag district are already cultivating Mango and Cashew. Among alternative crops, Custard Apple is one suitable to Gadag climatic conditions. Further, he said that the Custard Apple is very much suitable for processing and requested farmers to take up guidance in cultivation, processing and marketing from both ICAR-K.H.Patil Krishi Vigyan Kendra and ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticulture Research, Hessaraghatta, Bengaluru. Dr.S.H.Jalikoppa, Retired Principal Scientist, ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru participated as Resource Person and spoke on Arka Sahana variety of Custard Apple, its importance, quality parameters, keeping quality etc. Apart from these qualities, the pulp of Arka Sahana variety is very good, more sweet and it is much tastier than other varieties. The price of Arka Sahana per kg of fruits is around Rs.140/Kg. Dr.L.B.Nayak, Retired Principal Scientist, IIHR, Bengaluru participated as Chief Guest. The programme was briefed by Dr.L.G.Hiregoudar, Senior Scientist and Head. On this occasion, Shri G.R.Odugoudar, President of Cashew and Mango Associations participated as Guest in the Seminar. More than 60 farmers participated in the event. In this Issue..... Seminar on Custard Apple Study Tour Gadag District FPO Members Celebration of Field Days Training Of High School & Anganwadi Teachers FLDs implemented Training programmes Field visits STUDY TOUR FOR GADAG DISTRICT FPO MEMBERS ICAR-K.H.Patil Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hulkoti in collaboration with State Department of Horticulture under Capacity Building of FPOs organised a 5 days inter-state tour programme to FPO Members from to Visits to Rahuri Agri University, visit to KVK Baramati, KVK Pune, KVK Kolhapur, KVK Narayangoan and visit to Progressive FPOs were made. The visit was organised to the farmers of Gadag District. A total of 50 Progressive Farmers, FPO Board Members and KVK Scientists participated in the tour programme.

2 CELEBRATION OF FIELD DAYS I) Field Day on Bt.Cotton Crop: On ICAR-K.H.Patil Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hulkoti organised field day on Bt.Cotton at Gojanur village of Laxmeshwar block. Various ICM practices in Bt.Cotton were demonstrated in 10 farmers fields in 4 hectares area. The field day was organised in Shri S.R.Patil s field. KVK Scientists briefed about the demonstrations, ICM practices, pest and disease management in Bt.Cotton. Gram Panchayat Members and ATMA Staff participated in the programme. More than 50 farmers participated in the field day. II) Field Day on Redgram Crop: The field day on Cluster Demonstration on Redgram under National Food Security Mission was conducted at Ranatur village of Shirahatti taluk on The Integrated Crop Management technologies in Redgram (TS-3R) variety were demonstrated in 20 hectares in 50 farmers fields. The field day was organised in Shri Basanagouda Patil s field. Scientists of KVK briefed about the production technology of Redgram, pest and disease management in Redgram crop. The participating farmers shared their experiences in cultivation of the crop. More than 60 farmers participated in the field day. III) Field Day on Fodder Production: The field day on Fodder crops was organised by ICAR-K.H.Patil Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hulkoti on at Bevinakatti village of Gajendragad block. The field day was organised in Shri Veerabhadrappa Pattanashetti s field, where in the demonstration of various fodder crops like Rhodes Grass, Hybrid Napier, DHN-8, Grazing Gunny, Signal Grass, COFS-31 and Lucerne. Dr.B.M.Murgod, Programme Assistant (Animal Husbandry) briefed about the cultivation practices of various fodder crops. More than 65 farmers participated in the field day.

3 IV) Field Day on Nutri-Farms: The field day on Nutri-Farms was organised at Basapur village of Gadag block on in Shri Malleshappa Yallappa Neelgund s field. Smt. Akkamahadevi Giraddi, Programme Officer, Department of Women and Child Welfare participated as Guest and spoke on Importance of Nutritious Food in daily diet and need to establish nutrition garden. KVK Home Scientist Dr.Sudha V. Mankani, briefed about the Importance of establishing nutrition garden, importance of fruits, vegetables, leafy vegetables and millets. The ill effects of junk food, bakery products, fried foods etc., especially among younger generation was discussed. Smt. Yallavva Basavaneppa Kavalur, Member, Pattana Panchayat and Progressive Farmer Shri Kavalur were also present in the field day. Shri Malleshappa Kavalur shared his experience in establishing nutri-farm. An exposure visit was also organised to nutri-farm. 80 farmers and farm women participated in the field day. V) Field Day on Sunflower: ICAR-K.H.Patil Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hulkoti organised field day on Sunflower under NMOOP on at Bevinakatti village of Gajendragad block. The demonstrations on ICM practices in Sunflower in 50 farmers fields in 20 hectares were laid out during Kharif The field day was organised in Shri Basanagouda Rudragouda Patil s field. KVK Scientists briefed about the cultivation practices, pest and disease management. More than 50 farmers participated in the field day. TRAINING OF EXTENSION FUNCTIONARIES I) TRAINING OF HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS: ICAR-K.H.Patil Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hulkoti organised two trainings to High School Teachers on Integrated Agriculture was organised on and The programme was inagurated by Shri Kenchanagoudra, Head Master, HCES, Asundi, Gadag Taluk. Dr.L.G.Hiregoudar, Senior Scientist & Head briefed the importance of Integrated Farming Systems. Further, he requested teachers to spread this messgae to farmers. About 43 high school teachers particiapted in the training.

4 II) TRAINING OF ANGANWADI TEACHERS One day training to Anganwadi Teachers working in Karantaka State Department of Women and Child Welfare was organised on importance of millets in diet and healthy food for healthy life at KVK on The programme was inagurated by Smt. Akkamahadevi, Programme Officer, Department of Women and Child Welfare, Gadag District and Smt. Roopa Gundhal, Supervisor, Department of Women and Child Welfare particiapted as Chief Guest. The trainees were briefed about food & nutrients, millet nutrition, iron deficiencey, anaemia etc. Film show on deficiency diseases was screened to the trainees. Further, an exposure visit was arranged to Ethnic Food Café at KVK Premises. 32 Anganwadi Teachers working in Gadag block participated in this training.
