I hope to use my experience in Agriculture, Animal Sciences, and Ag Economics to be able to better assist you in your needs, until a new ANR Agent is hired. 2 KENTUCKY ALFALFA AND STORED FORAGE CONFERENCE Location: Cave City Convention Center in Cave City, KY Date: Thursday, February 22, 2018 (All day) The 37th annual Kentucky Alfalfa and Stored Forage Conference will be hosted on Feb. 22 by the University of Kentucky and the Kentucky Forage and Grassland Council. This daylong conference will extend from 8:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. CST at the Cave City Convention Center in Cave City. The conference focuses on teaching ways to maximize both production and utilization of alfalfa. With presentations from University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food and Environment specialists and other industry representatives, participants will hear topics such as alfalfa establishment and export markets for alfalfa hay. Intermittent breaks and opportunities for discussion are provided. The event also offers lunch and a silent auction for attendees. Attendees are welcome to browse exhibits during breaks. Registration is $30 per person before Feb.15 and $40 afterwards. Sponsor fees are $250, including an exhibit booth and one general registration. For all registrations, go to More information on the conference and directions to the convention center are available on the UK forage extension website at Pesticide Container Rinse and Return Recycling Program The Rinse and Return Program is a voluntary, cooperative program sponsored by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, the Agri-Business Association of Kentucky and the local Extension Office and Farm Bureau Due to the materials previously held by these pesticide containers they cannot be recycled with your ordinary household plastics. This also reduces the amount of material entering the landfill or being disposed of by other means. Some of the end products include drainage pipe, highway sign posts, underground utility conduit, and wire/cable spool flanges. Since the beginning of the program, Rinse & Return has collected 956,503 pounds of pesticide container. This year s collection in Allen County will take place at Southern States from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on the following dates: Monday, September 17th, 2018 Before arriving please wash container 3 times, remove any labels, puncture container, and throw away lids For more information, please call Southern States (270)

Menu: BBQ, Beans, Chips, Cole Slaw Mid-South Stocker Conference Set For March 7th The 2018 Mid-South Stocker Conference on March 7th will be held at the Manchester-Coffee County Convention Center. The conference will assist stocker operators in exploring ideas for the production of efficient performing healthy cattle and determining the role of cow calf to stocker production in a rapidly evolving cattle industry. If raising tobacco, you must attend a GAP Training every year! **Please bring your GAP grower ID card to the meeting to have your attendance recorded! REAP-Renewable Energy for America Grants REAP grants are offered by USDA Rural Development and can help agricultural producers and rural businesses pay for 25% of renewable energy and/or energy efficiency project costs. Funds are to do efficiency upgrades or install renewable energy systems. Project examples include: lighting efficiency, heating efficiency, bio-energy, solar energy, and dairy ventilation projects. An energy assessment or audit is required as part of the application. There is also a low interest loan program that can help with part of the project costs. This is a great opportunity to reduce the long term operating cost of your business! 4 Commercial Vegetable Producers Meeting Where: Perrytown Produce When: 9:00 a.m. - Noon Speakers: Dr. Ric Bessin and Dr. Emily Fiffer Commercial Production guides will be provided. For additional information please contact Allen County Extension Office (270) Thistle Spraying Program The KY Dept. of Agriculture will provide the sprayer and enough chemical for the treatment of 10 acres. KDA representative will demonstrate proper mixing and application techniques. A number of thistles can be treated under this program. This program is limited to broadleaf weeds. If additional chemical is provided by the participant, an additional 10 acres can be treated. The participant must provide water source, tractor and operator. All chemical products must be labeled and product label will be followed. This program is designed to target weeds that have a negative impact on agriculture. A maximum of 7 participants per county. Also, if you have participated in this program in the last 3 years you are not eligible. If you are interested in participating in this program, please contact the Allen County Extension Office so you can be signed up.
