1 LUDLOW MARKET STORE SALE FRIDAY 24 th AUGUST 2018 STORE CATTLE 220 A better feel to the cattle trade with more buyers looking for cattle. With harvest about done and the weather cooling off buyers are starting to come out. FEEDING BULLS A good selection of bulls with a range of suckler bred and dairy types all finding new homes. Bulls topped at 1030pph or 2.84ppk to average 675pph or 1.90ppk. Many more needed for 14 th September. FEEDING STEERS An entry dominated by dairy sorts. Better types selling very well. Steers peaked at 1165pph or 2.40ppk to average 815pph or 1.75ppk. More needed for the 14 th September. FEEDING HEIFERS As with the heifers the entry had a high percentage of dairy types. Heifers reached 1080 pph or 2.74ppk to average 725pph or 1.80ppk. More needed for the 14 th September. NEXT SALE FRIDAY 14 th SEPTEMBER 2018: Good entries will be needed in all sections. The calves were Limousin x, Charolais x and Hereford x bulls and heifers and all calves forward averaged 340 per head. Bulls sold to 380 per head and averaged 300 per head. Heifers sold to 370 and averaged 350. We have a number of buyers attending each sale looking for rearing calves and we need good entries for forthcoming sales. STORE LAMBS 1421 A varied entry of store lambs in terms of size and quality. There was a good trade on all types forward, which sold to a number of buyers, which is good to see. The recent rains and reasonable fat lamb trade has stimulated more interest in the store lambs. The store lambs averaged a good right through the section with lamb prices ranging from 112 to 73 per head. We have a number of buyers looking for store lambs so we need good entries for the forthcoming sales. BREEDING EWES breeding ewes on offer and a 90% clearance rate. The trade was much stronger right the way through. More people to bid and a better feel to everything. Top price of the day was 180 for some Beltex x yearlings exhibited by RJ Amplett, The Laurels. The prize winners in the show classes were: Class 1: Best Pen of 10 or more Mule Ewes Class 2: Best Pen of 10 or more Crossbred Ewes 1 st Prize: SJ Yarnold & Sons, Hopesmoor 1 st Prize: Brookhouse Farm, Abdon 2 nd Prize: JW & EG Sankey, Downfield Farm 2 nd Prize: SC Hones, Waundale 3 rd Prize: GE Morgan, Crow Leasowes 3 rd Prize: Miss DE Stephens, Tuthill Farm Price were as follows: Texel x yearling Ewes to 172, 164, 151, with others in the mid 130 s. Cheviot x yearling Ewes to 149, 148 Runs of good North Country Mules made between 138 and 145. Runs of good Suffolk x yearlings sold from mid 130 s to 148. Welsh Mules were more difficult at this sale but there was a top price of 154. Older ewes on offer met strong competition with 2 year old North Country Mules to 132 and 129 and 2 year old Suffolk ewes at 121 and 110. Full mouthed North Country Mule ewes to 102 with runs at 100. THREE HORSESHOES SALE SATURDAY 25 th AUGUST 2018 STORE LAMBS 78 A very, very strong trade. 8 buyers turned up to purchase lambs at the Shoes and we will need many more for the next sale.
