A meaty little Dexter bull from TP & JH Stevenson reached 63.5p. As with the younger cattle heifers generally harder work topping at 161.5p for a Simmental x from Messrs Head Bros. As usual over three year old cattle heavily penalised. Other good Angus cattle saw steers to 184p from Tod Carder and 179.5p from Jack and Sheila Barker with the day s top price heifer from Tod Carder at 183.5p. Trade for blue marked lambs easier by some by some 5p per kilo across the weight ranges partly due to the very hot weather and the strengthening of sterling against the euro after the last two weeks gains. Top price standardweights 188p per kilo form D Mann & Son of Bowerchalke, mediumweights to 191p per kilo from R W Gould of Pilton whose heavyweights also topped at the same money, overweights to 161p per kilo for JA & H Cradock of Motcombe, Shaftesbury. Yellow marked lambs topped at 189p per kilo for mediumweights from Mrs N & A Irwin of Cheriton, Alresford. Unpresented lambs topped at 185.1p per kilo from the Kings Farm Partnership of Alresford. A similar number of cull ewes and rams this week but very few best

3 quality forward, ewes carrying fat very difficult to sell once again but plainer sorts an improved trade throughout. Top price ewes from C & R Brown of Over Wallop, Stockbridge. Top price ram 80 from Philip Harrison of Wincanton. Would vendors of hoggets please mark any sheep with broad teeth erupted as these have to be sold separately. Vendors please note that dirty sheep which cannot be killed will be heavily discounted by buyers. Please clip out where necessary. 4 Store Cattle (155) Auctioneer Ian Tanner Trade: A tremendous entry today, for a scorching day, it s safe to say we felt the heat! A real mixed quality entry, with a large amount of harder, dairy bred cattle met a superb trade for the entry, less faces around the ring but all hungry for cattle. Better bred sorts a really fantastic trade. Large numbers of 4-6 m.o. stores found good support, mainly Friesian steers/bulls or harder smaller beef types sold very well. Aberdeen Angus heifers to 307 from Shaun Howe with Hereford steers to 340 and British Blues to 355, 4 m.o. Charolais steers to 412 from Dave Cradock with his Hereford heifers to 350. Plenty of m.o. cattle forward today, and for the entry a real trade. John Terpstra s lorry load saw Friesian steers to a grand 669, Aberdeen Angus steers to 710, Hereford to 735 and Blues to 745. Hard Friesian steers from Wakely Cox sold exceptionally well trading from , his Aberdeen Angus hit a superb 845. Stronger Charolais steers to 920, Aberdeen Angus to 880 from a Hampshire farmer. Mick Newell s beef Shorthorn s sold to a super 920. Robert Marsh s Hereford steers sold well to 865 (1.80p a kilo) top price today to a fantastic 950 from Messrs Whitfield for an Aberdeen Angus heifer. Keep them coming, a very strong trade for the entry today.
