4 EXPORTERS ASSOCIATIONS IN TURKEY They are professional organizations, operating in several regions of Turkey since 1937, as affiliates of The Undersecretariat of the Prime Ministry for Foreign Trade. Their mission is to contribute to sustainable economic development of Turkey through improving foreign trade. There are 61 exporter associations in Turkey operating in 24 different sectors. They are organized under 13 secretariat generals. 4

5 About Istanbul Exporters` Associations - I Istanbul Exporters` Associations (IIB), which began to operate in 1940, is one of the 13 general secretariats in Turkey. There are 7 associations under IIB`s roof, operating in seven different sectors. These associations are: Istanbul Cereals Pulses Oil Seeds and Products Exporters` Association Istanbul Wood and Forestry Products Exporters` Association Istanbul Hazelnut and Products Exporters` Association Istanbul Fishery and Animal Products Exporters` Association Istanbul Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Exporters` Association Istanbul Dried Fruits and Products Exporters` Association Istanbul Ship and Yachts Exporters` Association 5

6 About Istanbul Exporters` Associations - II The main aim of IIB is contributing into Turkey s sustainable economic development through enhancing export capacity and performance in relevant sectors and supporting its member companies for better commercial relations and practices in foreign trade. IIB maintains several activities such as; Organizing international exhibitions, Trade development activities, Specific promotion and development activities, Statistical data collection and data analysis, Economic researches and reporting, Vocational training activities, Consulting services, Coordination activities, Periodicals and publishing, Export supporting activities. 6

39 CHAPTER 28 - CONSUMER AND HEALTH PROTECTION - I PRIORITIES Increasing compliance with the acquis on consumer protection and ensure adequate administrative structures and enforcement capacity. Increasing alignment with the acquis on the protection of health and provision of adequate administrative structures and enforcement capacity. Ensuring the effective enforcement of consumer protection rules and the participation of relevant consumer organizations and a high level of protection. 39

40 CHAPTER 28 - CONSUMER AND HEALTH PROTECTION - II For consumer protection side, the main actor is the General Directorate for Protection of Consumer and Competition (GDPCC) of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) A Consumer Council established in 1995 acts as an advisory body to the MoIT and represents 57 bodies, including several NGO s. For public health side, the main actors are the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the subordinate Refik Saydam National Hygiene Centre, the General Directorate for Borders and Maritime Health as well as Provincial Health Directorates in 81 provinces. 40
