The event takes place on the 19th to 23rd of June 2016 right in the heart of the European Food Sphere a unique, innovation-driven environment. 4 4 ABOUT IFAMA IFAMA is an international management organisation that brings together current and future business, academic, and government leaders along with other industry stakeholders to improve the strategic focus, transparency, sustainability, and responsiveness of the global food and agribusiness system. IFAMA is volunteer driven and has over 800 members in more than 50 countries, including: Leading business executives University departments, libraries, researchers, educators, administrators, and students National and international policymakers Non-governmental organizations and consumer groups ABOUT THE DANISH FOOD AND AGRICULTURE CLUSTER Denmark s food and agriculture cluster is the third biggest in the world, exporting to more than 130 countries and accounting for almost a quarter of the nation s total product exports. Our capabilities within research, innovation, and production cover the entire food value chain and offer major potential for further global growth. In two recent independent benchmarks by research institute, LEI Wageningen in the Netherlands, and A. Renwick et al., the conclusions where that Denmark is number one within food innovation in Europe. 6 6 NEW ANSWERS TO A GLOBAL CHALLENGE Food Secerity is a new and innovative initiative that aims towards engaging partners to produce bold, creative, and sustainable solutions to the global food challenge. The overarching challenge facing humanity today is how to prepare ourselves in order to feed the at least 9 billion people who will inhabit the earth in Addressing this challenge requires a carefully orchestrated approach to three major issues: PEOPLE: Flow of Talent in the Food and Agribusiness Sector CLIMATE: Climate-Smart Food and Agribusiness Systems BIG DATA: Better Analytics and Deeper Insight Management In the coming decades, these issues will impact public policies, management, human resource development, technology, international trade, environmental sustainability, resource availability, and even domestic and international conflicts. They are intimately interconnected and critical to the food and agribusiness industry s ability to solve the challenges of food security. To reach this goal IFAMA, WICaMeN, and Danish Food Cluster have joined forces. 7 7 PEOPLE CLIMATE BIG DATA Flow of Talent in the Food and Agribusiness Sector People with the right work ethic, training, competencies, and skills will increasingly be the primary source of sustainable superior performance in the emerging world. Climate-Smart Food and Agribusiness Systems Changes in climate will have direct implications for food production, commodity supply and prices, and food security, especially among vulnerable populations in both developed and developing countries. Better Analytics and Deeper Insight Management Big Data is a major key in addressing food security challenges and productivity improvements in a future era of resource constraints and climate change. EXAMPLE ROUNDTABLE TOPICS Identifying and overcoming the barriers influencing the attractiveness of the food and agribusiness industry to young people in different regions, from elementary school through university. Identifying the changes to education needed to enhance the flow of high quality talent into the industry. Initiating conversations among regional stakeholders and their networks to begin crafting effective solutions to the food and agribusiness talent flow issue. EXAMPLE ROUNDTABLE TOPICS Defining and mapping the implications of climate change on systems in the food and agribusiness industry. Identifying the gaps in knowledge among industry stakeholders with respect to climate changes, as well as developing the research questions, training, and processes to bridge them. Building the necessary coalitions and networks that will enable industry stakeholders to deal effectively with climate change. EXAMPLE ROUNDTABLE TOPICS Developing research questions to envision the role of Big Data in the food and agribusiness industry and strategies to exploit it. Developing curricula to enhance industry managers ability to analyse and use data at various levels in different regions. Framing the issues surrounding Big Data in ways that avoid privacy risks dogging other industries. Building alliances to foster opportunities for data sharing that enhance efficiency while leaving room for competition.
