METHODS FOR U.S. WHEAT

Hard Red Winter Wheat 300g to 6,800g are based on protein and grainshed. Plains Grains Inc. State wheat commissions State departments of agriculture USDA-ARS Hard Winter Wheat Quality Lab AIB International U.S. Plains Location: 100% Elevator Collection occurs when harvest is 30% complete in the grainshed. Follow-up sampling is done if a major weather event occurs that impacts quality. U.S. Pacific Northwest Location: 100% Elevator Collection begins the third week of July. Data shown in the USW Crop Quality Report is based on composite sample averages. The overall average values are weighted by export tributary. Individual samples are used to create the distributions shown in the USW Crop Quality Report.

California Hard Red Winter 2,300g to 2,700g 150 All samples are tested. California Location: 100% Elevator Collection begins and ends when harvest does. Data shown in the USW Crop Quality Report is based on composite sample averages.

Hard Red Spring Wheat 900g to 1,400g are based on protein and export tributary region. USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service State Wheat Commissions NDSU HRS Wheat Quality Lab U.S. Plains Location: 30% Elevator 70% Farm Collection occurs when harvest is 15% complete in each county. Collection ends the last week of September in order to meet publication deadlines. U.S. Pacific Northwest Location: 100% Elevator Collection begins the third week of July. Data shown in the USW Crop Quality Report is based on composite sample averages. The overall average values are calculated using regional composite averages. Individual samples are used to create the distributions shown in the USW Crop Quality Report.

Hard White Wheat 300g to 6,800g are based on protein and growing area. U.S. Plains Location: 100% Elevator Collection occurs when harvest is 30% complete in the grainshed. Follow-up sampling is done if a major weather event occurs that impacts quality. California Location: 100% Elevator Collection begins and ends when harvest does. Plains Grain Inc. State wheat commissions Private and state grain grading labs Pacific Northwest Location: 100% Elevator Collection begins the third week of July Data shown in the USW Crop Quality Report is based on protein composite samples.

Durum Wheat 1,200g are based on geographic area collected. USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service State wheat Commissions NDSU Durum Wheat/Pasta Quality Lab U.S. Northern Plains Location: 30% Elevator 70% Farm Collection begins when harvest is 10% complete in each county. Collection ends on October 4 in order to meet publication deadline. Data shown in the USW Crop Quality Report is based on composite sample averages. The overall average values are weighted by production. Individual samples are used to create the distributions shown in the USW Crop Quality Report.

Desert Durum Wheat 4,500g to 6,800g All samples are tested. 75 Arizona Grain Research and Promotion Council Milling Agencies NDSU Durum Wheat/Pasta Quality Lab U.S. Southwest Location: 100% Elevator Collection begins and ends when harvest does. Data shown in the USW Crop Quality Report is based on the individual samples from California and Arizona weighted by production.

Soft White Wheat 600g to 1,500g are based on protein and growing area. State wheat commissions Private and state grain grading organizations U.S. Pacific Northwest Location: 100% Elevator Collection begins the third week of July. Data shown in the USW Crop Quality Report is based on composite sample averages. The overall average values are weighted by the number of samples received from each region. Sampling in the PNW is generally correlated to regional production. Individual samples are used to create the distributions shown in the USW Crop Quality Report.

Soft Red Winter Wheat 6,800g to 9,000g are based on grainshed districts in each state. Great Plains Analytical Laboratory Great Plains Analytical Laboratory East Coast and Gulf Location: 100% Elevator Collection begins in early June and concludes after all locations have been sampled. Follow-up sampling is done if a major weather event occurs that impacts quality. Data shown in the USW Crop Quality Report is based on composite sample averages. The overall average values are based on composite results weighted by production of the states surveyed. Individual samples are used to create the distributions shown in the USW Crop Quality Report.
