J.O'Sullivan, S. Lonsbary and R. Grohs MTERILS and METHODS Liquid formulations were applied with a R+D research sprayer (back pack) using CO 2 as a source of pressure. Unless otherwise stated, applications were made at the rate of 200 liters per hectare at 200 kpa pressure using XR 8002 Tee Jet nozzles. Nozzles were set at 50 cm apart with a boom length of 1.5 or 2.0 m, depending on the plot size. Boom height was set to 50 cm above the target. ll chemical rates are expressed as kilograms of active ingredient per hectare. In several abstracts, a visual rating system has been used to evaluate weed control and crop tolerance. The system used is advocated by the Expert Committee on Weeds. The scale is linear from For weed control, 0 = no control, complete control. For crop tolerance, 0 = no injury and 100 = death to crop. In several abstracts, a weed biomass is used to evaluate the weed densities. The weed biomass ratings represent a count of the number of weeds present in the plot (1m2) multiplied by the average height of each species (cm). This number is then expressed as a percent of the untreated check. Negative percentages denote zero control for that particular weed species. -1-
