10 Section 4: Description and definition of success indicators and proposed measurement methodology Objective 1. Development of high yielding varieties / hybrids /transgenics will help in achievement of higher productivity of pulses. The basic information generated on genetics of the traits, development of crop models and biochemical and physiological analysis of growth parameters will have long-term implications in generation of important material and technology. Objective 2. Appropriate production and protection technologies will help in alleviating various abiotic and biotic stresses and thereby enhancement of pulse productivity and conservation of natural resources. Breeder seeds are basic for developing seed chain for availability of quality seeds. The production of breeder seed should be sufficient to increase appropriate seed replacement ratio (SRR). Therefore, breeder seed of important varieties of different pulse crops are being produced at different AICRPs centres and IIPR. A seed rolling plan has been prepared which is suitably monitored at institute level. Objective 3: On farm demonstration and transfer of technology will help in dissemination of technology and thereby improving production and productivity of pulses in the country. Objective 4 : Evaluation and testing of improved lines and technology developed are basic programme of AICRPs. This is being monitored at Institute levels with three AICRPs Units. The results are discussed in Annual Group Meet and Technical Programmes are also finalized in group meet. Section 5. Specific performance requirement from other agencies that are critical for delivering agreed results 1. Support of other agencies is necessary to take up the new initiatives /proposals of the department. Timely approval and allocation of approved funds is critical for achievement of the targets. 2. Improved varieties and technology developed by the Institute will be taken up by State Departments of Agricultural, Extension agencies and other developmental departments. The productivity gain realized at farmers' field will be important parameters for successful execution of developmental and promotional activities of pulses production in the country.
