Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) is a broader term for Information Technology (IT), which refers to all communication technologies, including the internet, wireless networks, cell phones, computers, software, middleware, videoconferencing, social networking, and other media applications and services enabling users to access, retrieve, store, transmit, and manipulate information in a digital form. aims.fao.org heri.staff.umy.ac.id 4

Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) Agriculture is the process of producing food, feed, fiber and many other desired products by the cultivation of certain plants and the raising of domesticated animals (livestock). Sciencedialy.org heri.staff.umy.ac.id 6

Bagaimana dengan Agribusiness...? heri.staff.umy.ac.id 7

Konsep Agribisinis John Davis and Ray Goldberg (1957) Agribusiness is the sum total of all operations involved in the manufacture and distributions of farm supplies; production; operations on the farm; and the storage, processing and distribution of farm commodities and items made from them Bungaran Saragih (1996) Agribisnis merupakan cara baru melihat dan membangun pertanian dimana pembangunan ekonomi berbasis pertanian tidak hanya terbatas pada pada pembangunan subsistem usaha tani saja. heri.staff.umy.ac.id 8

ICT Component in Agriculture heri.staff.umy.ac.id 16

ICT Application Practices in Agriculture heri.staff.umy.ac.id 17

Geographic Information System A system designed to manipulate and analyze geographical data GIS Geographic data Software Hardware Geographic data: Links the data with spatial information (e. g. topography, hydrography, roads, agriculture, buildings, etc) Depends on Satellite or aerial photography GIS combines Geographic data Data is organized in thematic layers Data is presented in graphical form Helps in decision making heri.staff.umy.ac.id 18

GIS in Agriculture In a map of agricultural area, for example, one layer each for the following could be produced, i. e., piece of land, soil types, crop yield, specific soil treatment, and irrigation. The interrelationship among these layers can be concluded. Possible applications are yield data analysis, site specific prescription, irrigation planning, terrain analysis, crop growth modeling, etc. Advantages Greater support for precision farming Better understanding of risk factors Higher revenue generation Better resource management Better policy making Possible layers for Agriculture heri.staff.umy.ac.id 19
