31 Conclusions VDLUFA and its members provide diverse services across analysis, research, information and consulting. Federal and state ministries and departments can draw on the vast competence of VDLUFA and its members. Going forward, it will become increasingly important for VDLUFA to represent the interests of the German analysis and research community in national and international bodies and cooperate at the European level. An important goal for the future is to reposition VDLUFA in applied agricultural research. The services directly provided by VDLUFA, as well as the equipment and experience of the LUFAs, can play diverse roles for research and teaching at universities. Universities and VDLUFA both stand to benefit greatly from this collaboration.
