2 welcome to ammo! Welcome to AMMO the Agricultural Marketing and Management Organization. Our goal is to help you increase your profitability by making better farm management decisions, and we invite you to take part in the 2018 Farm Management Training Programs! AMMO, a program of the Washington Association of Wheat Growers, has offered grower education programs since Continuing to reach farm managers across eastern Washington, AMMO provides educational opportunities as well as avenues for growers to connect with professionals and experts on many challenges facing agriculture. Through producer feedback, we have designed the 2018 series to meet the challenges of today s agriculture industry. While some workshop topics are back by popular demand, others have been added to the roster. The AMMO group is proud to offer these 2018 programs for our customers and friends. 3 1 2018/19 Wheat outlook AND flexible 3-speed approach to marketing Time: 10:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. (lunch provided) Location: Northern Quest Casino-Hotel, Airway Heights, WA Dan Manternach Dan Manternach is a seasoned, award-winning executive, writer and speaker who will provide you the tools to develop and stick to an effective marketing plan. He will provide a market outlook forecast and discuss tips on how to monitor the price range under three different weather scenarios. Events both regionally and globally can impact the market and attendees will be able to determine the most likely scenario, as well as any wild cards, affecting the outlook. The afternoon portion of the session will focus on the fine points of smart marketing strategies, including how to break the grip of greed and fear that often are a part of marketing decisions. Participants will gain sound basis strategy, learn price enhancement strategies, and more. 15 farm bill and crop insurance: what s at stake? Time: 10:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. (lunch provided) Location: Northern Quest Casino-Hotel, Airway Heights, WA Dr. Art Barnaby Dr. Art Barnaby, renowned professor at Kansas State University, conducts national extension education programs on market risk, government commodity programs, crop insurance, and public policy. His ongoing research helps growers understand the market implications of policy decisions. Crop insurance often tops the list for safety net critics, and will remain a target for proponents. This session will focus on several areas of interest, including the result of non-convergence in the wheat market and its impact on basis, means testing and the potential elimination of the harvest price, subsidy limitations, and more. Dr. Barnaby will also discuss the ins and out of the ARC program, while comparing the estimated versus the actual program payment. The AMMO speakers were outstanding! They brought a national perspective to our area and provided an outlook on what is to come. AMMO attendee 4 5

4 22 Farm and production risk management tools Time: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (lunch provided) Location: Red Lion Hotel, Pasco, WA Crop insurance is a critical risk management tool available for wheat producers. Steve Vollrath, a crop insurance expert, will update attendees of new procedural changes for 2018 and discuss options to better manage your risk in current economic conditions. Program options are available to new and beginning farmers, as well as premium reduction options. Farm safety is also of great importance to ag employers. Experts will be on hand to discuss safety, prevention resources, labor laws, and more. 27 maximize intensive wheat management Time: 11:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. (lunch provided) Location: Red Lion Hotel, Pasco, WA Dr. Romulo Lollato Dr. Romulo Lollato is a professor at Kansas State University and has an extensive knowledge of agronomic practices leading to maximized wheat yield and profitability. His research focuses on narrowing yield gaps with the use of best management practices, strategies to overcome low soil ph, wheat nutrient uptake and partitioning into plant components, resource-use efficiency, and more. This session will focus on understanding the yield and protein relationships by managing nitrogen fertilizer, as well as a discussion on the latest research regarding crop production practices including seeding rates, fungicide management, and other efforts to maximize profit. Information discussed during the AMMO sessions will help me make my marketing decisions in the coming year. I feel more equipped to analyze the markets and trends. AMMO attendee 6 7

5 15 MAY Wheat college Live Precision Ag and research demonstrations Time: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (lunch provided) Location: The McGregor Company Training Facility, Colfax, WA AMMO is excited to continue the popular Wheat College as part of our 2018 line-up! This event will offer a mix of indoor and outdoor presentations, providing live demonstrations of the most recent precision ag technology, as well as information on the latest agronomic research being conducted in the Pacific Northwest. Wheat College will also offer localized presentations from The McGregor Company and Washington State University Extension. Pesticide credits will be offered. Registration reminders will be mailed prior to the event. Wheat College was informative and well worth our time. The breakout session topics were timely and specific to our region.
