3 Meeting for Consultation and Coordination on Food Prices and Food Security In Latin America and the Caribbean SP/RRC-PAYSAALC/DT N 1-09 Rev 1 1 MEETING FOR CONSULTATION AND COORDINATION ON FOOD PRICES AND FOOD SECURITY IN LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN 17 and 18 September Caracas, Venezuela. Objectives: i) To analyze the changes in prices of foodstuffs and inputs for agricultural production; ii) To identify regional cooperation, coordination and consultation actions being undertaken at the regional and subregional levels and which are expected to strengthen and promote cooperation and food security in Latin American and Caribbean countries; iii) To identify successful experiences being reported in the region for the definition and implementation of national food security policies and cooperation and support measures in Latin America and the Caribbean; iv) To follow up and evaluate, from a Latin American and Caribbean perspective, the results and conclusions of FAO s High-Level Conference on Food Security, Climate Change and Bioenergy, held in Rome (3 to 5 June 2008), as well as those of other recent events and initiatives on food security being carried out by the OECD and the Government of Spain, among others, within the context of FAO; and v) To make proposals on possible lines of action to be developed by Latin American and Caribbean countries, international and regional organizations and the rest of the international community to efficiently face the food crisis and comply with the suggestions arising from the conclusions and recommendations approved by consensus by the Member States of SELA in the regional meetings on Food Security.
