1 Wheat Variety fact sheet Southern Zone Hatchet

2 Variety snapshot Tolerant to Clearfield Intervix herbicide Very early maturity, 1-2 days earlier than Axe Derived from Axe, with similar adaptation pattern Moderately resistant to CCN AH quality classification Susceptible to leaf rust, similar to Axe

3 Breeders comments The rapid adoption of the wheat varieties Kord and Grenade, and Scope CL barley has highlighted the important role that Intervix tolerance plays in your integrated weed management strategy. Hatchet (RAC1843) compliments this suite of varieties, adding an AH, CCN resistant, short season wheat variety into the set of Intervix tolerant cereals you can now pick from. Hatchet is even quicker to flower (by two days) than its main parent Axe, so is likely to suit environments where terminal drought stress is frequently encountered. This fast maturity may also be used to grower s advantage when managing weed-problem paddocks, allowing an extra knockdown to be introduced prior to sowing Hatchet. Combined with its early vigour, Hatchet is a useful tool for managing the impact of weeds on your farm. Clearfield System Hatchet has been specifically developed to carry two genes for tolerance to Clearfield Intervix herbicide. Intervix is a member of the imidazolinone chemical family with Group B mode of action, offering one-pass post-emergent knockdown and residual control of many major grass and broadleaf weeds. Intervix Herbicide is available via the Clearfield Agricentre Agency system, administered by BASF. For more information visit of Toll Free Seed Availability Commercial quantities of Hatchet may be available through AGT Affiliates, or your local retailer. Please consult the AGT website for AGT Affiliate contact details. Seed of Hatchet can not be legally traded between growers. The sale or trade of seed of Hatchet farmer to farmer is an infringement of Australian Law under the Plant Breeders Rights ACT of PBR and EPR Hatchet is protected by Plant Breeders Rights (PBR) and all production (except seed saved for planting) is liable to an End Point Royalty (EPR), which funds future plant breeding. Hatchet growers will be subject to a Growers License Agreement that acknowledges that an EPR of $3.80/ tonne* + GST has to be paid on all production other than seed saved for planting. (*$3.25/tonne AGT breeder royalty, $0.55/tonne BASF technical fee).
