5 TRADITIONS AND FESTIVALS KAZIUKAS FAIR: held on the Sunday nearest to St. Kasimir s day, 4 March. It is a joyful folk arts and crafts festival Kaziukas festival is an echo of historical Lithuanian ethnographic tradition. We also celebrate: New Year s Day, Easter, Labour Day, Kūčios (Cristmas Eve), Christmas, the Independence Day on February 16, the Independence Restoration Day on March 11, the King Mindaugas Crowning Day, Assumption of Mary Day and All Saints Day on November 1. We pray for the BASKETBALL GODS, because Basketball is true religion in Lithuania. 5

6 IMPORTANCE OF LITHUANIAN AGRICULTURE Agriculture is one of the strategic areas of the national economy. Agricultural and food sector generates almost 8 % country's GDP. In agriculture sector work 10 % of total employees. Agriculture creates 25% of the total Lithuanian export. It is important on economical, social, ethno-cultural and environmental perspective. Our farmers serve on the table high-quality, safe and varied food. 6

11 AGRICULTURAL COMPANY VONIŠKIAI One of the region's most modern farms. In 2011 the company received The most advanced livestock farm award. The company has 700 livestock, of which milked cows and hectares of farmland. Exclusively from Voniškiai milk is produced handmade, naturally ripened cheese Liliputas. KREKENAVOS AGROFIRM Krekenavos agrofirm is: the most modern firm in packing fresh meat in Lithuania; the largest supplier of fresh meat in Lithuania. Occupies more than half the country's fresh meat market and 12.5% of the meat products market. 11

12 CONCLUSION In Lithuania dominates long food supply chains. This sector increases the income of farmers and the consumption of fresh and relatively unprocessed food, brings consumers and farmers closer, engages public institutions in its promotion. There is lack of short food supply chains witch can create economic, social and cultural benefits for farmers, consumers and rural areas in general. In the future agricultural activities will help to strengthen rural-urban linkages and contributes to sustainable development.
