2 Introduction The intent of this report is to provide an overview of the 2015 Western Canada Canola Public Canola Trials. The purpose of the public trials is to evaluate canola cultivars on the basis of quality parameters and disease resistance attributes. Agronomic information is collected for the following: yield, height, days to mature, and lodging. The collected data is combined with data derived from the previous year(s) private trials. Objective comparisons are derived from the data on the basis of oil content, meal protein content, glucosinolates, saturates, erucic acid, blackleg resistance, (as well as other criteria). Standardized check cultivars are used and all comparisons are based on head to head data. A summary package is prepared according to guidelines developed by the WCC/RRC and is used to evaluate candidate cultivars for variety recommendation. The WCC/RRC system is primarily based on evaluating and standardizing for quality parameters (meeting minimum criteria) under the appropriate agronomic system that ensures that data is collected over time and space in Western Canada. Typically, 25 or more station years of data is collected per cultivar. The guidelines for both private and public trials are contained in the WCC/RRC Procedures and Appendices (published yearly).
