2 African Leaders meet in Kigali, Rwanda for Global agriculture forum to take stock, evaluate actions, and learn from compelling agricultural evidence across the continent Africa is on the move with the lives and livelihoods of millions of people improving, and entire economies growing at a brisk pace. Aspirations for the years ahead are even greater with many nations pushing to achieve middle income status in the next 30 years, and a few others gunning for high income status. Agriculture, the continent s surest path to inclusive and sustainable economic development, is at the heart of this progress driven by leaders that are visionary and accountable and that integrate efforts by diverse stakeholders including farmers, local and global private sector, governments, civil society, investors, and development partners. However, Africa still needs to move from food shortages to surpluses, boost beneficial continental trade, and create millions of employment opportunities, particularly for women and youth. Under the leadership of H.E. Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda and Chair of the African Union in 2018, the global agricultural community will rally to build on Africa s agricultural transformation momentum built in recent years. With the theme of Lead. Measure. Grow, the AGRF will be an opportunity to measure and learn from the evidence of how agriculture s most inspiring leaders from government, the private sector and technical institutions are transforming the smallholder model to create entire agribusiness supply chains that create real value and impressive economic growth. The event will take stock, evaluate actions, and learn from compelling evidence across the continent, and will showcase the leadership of 5 Heads of State and 15+ ministers who serve as champions for the rest of the continent with their insights on lessons learned and progress made in agricultural transformation efforts around Africa. Future leaders in agriculture will also have a platform to discuss and plot the way forward. and there is a dedicated programme that includes the voice of the youth in the agricultural future of #AGRF2017 AGRF on Facebook The African Green Revolution Forum (AGRF) is a platform for global and African leaders to develop actionable plans that will move African agriculture forward. Established in 2010, the Forum has emerged as Africa s leading platform of agriculture platforms that brings together a range of critical stakeholders in the African agriculture landscape including African heads of state, ministers, farmers, private agribusiness firms, financial institutions, NGOs, civil society, scientists, as well as international development and technical partners of Africa to discuss and develop concrete plans for achieving the green revolution in Africa. 5 Thursday 6 th September 2018 PRESS EVENT 1 Launch of Africa Agriculture Trade Monitor Report 11:00HRS 12:00HRS The first in a series of annual reports will be launched during AGRF The report provides critical analysis that will make an important contribution towards efforts to promote intra-african trade and better integrate agricultural markets across the continent. Produced by International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) the report assesses long-term and emerging trends and drivers of Africa s global, intra-africa, and intra-regional economic community trade in agricultural products.
