1 ERASMUS STUDENTS GUIDE The University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest is the most representative and prestigious academic institution both in the field of agronomy and veterinary medicine in Romania. In 2012, the university celebrates its 160 years of Romanian Agronomic Education. Being a modern academic institution, the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest offers all the higher academic education forms, from Bachelor to Master s and Doctoral studies. Faculties: The University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest has seven faculties: Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Science, Land Improvements and Environmental Engineering, Biotechnologies and Faculty of Management, Economic Engineering in Agriculture and Rural Development The Faculty of Agriculture has the roots in the first agronomic school founded in The faculty has a diversified educational and research experience at the national and international level. Within it are prepared specialists in the fields of: agronomy, forestry, biology, but also in related fields as soil science and plant protection. The theoretical knowledge is completed by practical ones, attained on the experimental fields. Bachelor of Science (duration: 3-4 years)

Title obtained: Master in Agronomy Field: Agronomy Title obtained: PhD in Agronomy The Faculty of Horticulture was founded in 1948, being the first faculty with this profile in the country. Its students are prepared in the fields of: vegetable growing, floriculture and floral art, landscape and ornamental trees, fruit growing, viticulture and oenology. The future horticultural and landscaping engineers have at their disposal training fields as green houses, orchards, vineyards, etc. in order to perform the practical works. Title obtained: Master in Horticulture Field: Horticulture Title obtained: PhD in Horticulture The Faculty of Animal Science created in 1948 is renowned both in the country and abroad. Having a good infrastructure meant for the academic activity and for scientific research, it offers the possibility to follow here courses for Bachelor s in the fields: animal science, food products engineering and hunting, and thereafter for Master s and Doctoral studies. Training and experimental station and a research centre are organized and used by students for academic, research or practice purposes. Master of Science (duration: years) Design and development of livestock farms (1.5 years); Title obtained: Master in Animal Science Special technologies in food industry (1.5 years); Food products bio-security (2 years). Title obtained: Master in Food Products Engineering Field: Animal science Title obtained: PhD in Animal science The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine was founded in 1861, being the second in Europe after Lyon, France, one. Besides course halls, modern laboratories and an exceptional academic staff, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has in its complex a Veterinary

4 Clinic, with the latest equipment. Both, the professors and the students, ensure here specialty technical assistance for animals, consultations, treatments and surgical interventions. Bachelor of Science (duration: 4-6 years) Veterinary Medicine (6 years); Title obtained: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Food products control and expertise (4 years). Doctoral studies (duration: 4 years) Field: Veterinary Medicine Title obtained: PhD in Veterinary Medicine The Faculty of Land Reclamation and Environmental Engineering created in 1971 is the only Romanian faculty with this profile. The faculty prepares specialists for the field of land improvements, environment protection, constructions and cadastre and land measurement. The faculty offers an advances technical training, multidisciplinary in character, capable to resolve complex problems for the processes in the real economy. Title obtained: Master in Environment Engineering Field: Agronomy Title obtained: PhD in Agronomy The Faculty of Biotechnologies is the single Romanian faculty having this profile. Students benefit from an important infrastructure for education and research in Agricultural biotechnologies, Industrial biotechnologies and Medical-veterinary

5 biotechnologies. The graduates of the Faculty of Biotechnologies may develop their activity in productive sectors, in training facilities or in scientific research centers or institutes. Title obtained: Master in Applied Engineering Science Field: Biotechnology Title obtained: PhD in Biotechnology The Faculty of Management, Economic Engineering in Agriculture and Rural Development invites future students to pursue its courses since One may choose economic engineering in agriculture or engineering and management in public food service and agro-tourism, with the possibility of continuing studies with a Master s and a Doctoral program. The Faculty offers excellent conditions for the solid training of students in view of building their theoretical and practical knowledge in the fields of technical and economical sciences applied in agriculture. Title obtained: Master in Engineering and Management Field: Agronomy Title obtained: PhD in Agronomy University Research Centers and Institutes: Research Center for Sustainable Agriculture; Research Center for Integrated Fruit Growing; Research Center for Horticultural and Viticultural Products Quality and for Active Substances in Plants; Research Center for Microbial Biotechnologies - BIOTEHGEN; Research Center for Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology - BIOTEHNOL; Research Center for Rural Engineering and Environment Protection; Research Center for Animal Diseases Diagnosis and Therapy; Research Center for Animal products Quality; Research Institute for Comparative Anatomy; Research Institute for Poultry. Research and Development units Pietroasa Research and Development Station for Viticulture and Oenology was founded in As being located in Buzău area, the station benefits from an excellent soil and some climate conditions for vines growing. For more than 115 years, the station continued to adorn the hills with grapevines, to improve and to create new varieties and to hide the liquid treasure into the cellar. Istriţa Fruit Tree Nursery and Farm founded in the same year is specialized in the production of plums, apples and cherries in high density orchards. The production of fruit trees rootstocks and grafted trees in the nursery, benefits from a modern structure for nuclear stock conservation. Here students form their practical skills, in completing the theoretical knowledge attained during courses. Moara Domnească Didactical Farm is a complex production, teaching and research structure for Bachelor s students, academic staff, Master s students, doctoral studies students and researchers of the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary

7 Medicine of Bucharest. New varieties and hybrids of field crops, medicinal plants, fruit trees, research and testing programs and the most modern technologies in the field can be seen there. Animal husbandry is represented by a web-footed birds collection, milk cows, horses and fish production. Campuses University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine from Bucharest owns two campuses: Agronomie-Herăstrău campus and Medicină Veterinară-Cotroceni campus. Both of these campuses offer special living conditions to the students. All dormitories have own central heating, kitchens, rooms with cable TV and free internet access. In each campus there is a cafeteria and student s restaurants, grocery stores, a church, football fields with lawn or synthetic grass, tennis fields and a multifunctional sports hall. Periodically this also hosts cultural-artistic events. Student restaurants meal cost A wide range of meals from the Traditional Romanian and European cuisine is served every day.
