C.H. Robinson and For C.H. Robinson, sustainability is not a single initiative, but an overall approach to business that continually adds value, improves efficiencies, and invests in the long-term success of our customers, contract carriers, growers, employees, and communities. As a third party transportation and logistics provider, we help our customers and our industry increase efficiencies, while our produce programs are designed to bring healthy products to market and reduce the distance from farm to table.

Sustainability We are committed to providing a healthy, professional workplace that provides everyone with the opportunity for growth. And we give back to our communities, because the success of our industry depends on their health and success. We believe that everyone can contribute to the sustainability of our industry and our communities. Together, we can make a difference.

Driving Efficiencies The supply and demand chain is a complicated network of global businesses. Our business model creates transportation efficiencies through innovations that reduce waste and convert unproductive capacity into productive solutions: We help companies reduce empty miles and therefore fuel consumption by selecting efficient modes of transportation and contract carriers for every shipment. Transportation and network optimization strategies identify efficiency opportunities for our customers. By implementing and executing those strategies, savings are realized through fewer shipments and fewer transportation miles. This results in fewer greenhouse gas emissions. Local and regional farming programs shorten the distance from farm to table and strengthen local economies. An estimated 15-20% of miles traveled by U.S. trucks on the road are empty miles.* How much can our industry save by filling this unused capacity? *Source: U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration, Office of Freight Management and Operations, Freight Analysis Framework, Version 2.2, 2007.

Investing in Our Industry Our investments in technology, products, and programs target longterm and continual improvements of the food and transportation network. Here are a few examples: EPA s SmartWay SM : Energy efficiency and security initiatives and greenhouse gas reduction programs. Sustainable Food Lab: Environmentally and socially sustainable food supply chain programs. Western Growers : Increased capacity and cost reduction programs. Preferred Grower and Quick Pay : Programs that support small businesses and expedite payments.

Responsible in a Global Community As part of our commitment to local communities and our world, we support an ever-growing number of charitable organizations and programs that benefit our planet and those in need. These include: Employee and corporate sponsorship of the United Way, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Community Health Charities, American Cancer Society, and many other charitable programs. C.H. Robinson Foundation s pledge of over one million dollars to Children s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota. Pink Ribbon Watermelon education programs on healthy eating and breast cancer awareness, including contributions to organizations such as Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Our Common Goal With over 100 years of experience serving the needs of a changing supply chain, we know that the decisions we make today will make a real difference in the future of our world. From creating a positive workplace and supporting communities to investing in our industry and serving small businesses, we will continue to provide the innovation needed to contribute to a sustainable, global supply chain. People. Planet. Progress. Working together, we can all make a difference. At C.H. Robinson, we will continue to invest in our industry, our people, and our communities to help ensure long-term health and sustainability for today and tomorrow. John Wiehoff, C.H.
