Every year we recruit outstanding people for the 12-month+ Fellowship, placing successful candidates in one of our early-stage Ventures located throughout Sub-Saharan Africa. This Fellowship opportunity is with GreenPath Food and is based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. About GreenPath Food GreenPath Food is a socially-oriented agribusiness that produces organic produce in an environmentally-sustainable, organic manner in conjunction with a network of smallholder farmers. The company currently operates from its Butajira Production Area with a team of 15 staff and 58 Partner Farmers. GreenPath maintains a facility (the Farmer Service Center) with a cold store, nursery, and packhouse in Butajira, SNNPR. In the past 12 months, the company has (a) undergone successful organic certification, (b) begun exporting produce to Dubai, UAE, and (c) diversified its crop portfolio from 10 crops to

2 25. As a young, but growing company, GreenPath will expand to new production areas in the months and years to come with a vision to become East Africa s largest organic fruit and vegetable company. The Senior Staff at the organization are a group of highly talented professionals with experience in Ethiopian export horticulture, and agricultural development sectors, as well as direct experience in the Ethiopian start-up context. Each member of the team has a passion for improving the lives of smallholder farmers and increasing access to organically and sustainably grown, high-nutritious foods, and is committed to seeing GreenPath Food realize its core objectives. About the role GreenPath Food is currently seeking a professional, high-performance individual to serve as Marketing & Sales Manager. This individual will have the unique opportunity to help shape the future of a young, environmentally and socially-conscious agriculture business in Ethiopia, one of Africa s most promising economies. Ideal candidates have experience working in Ethiopia and the ability to successfully lead the company s sales and marketing efforts as the company scales over the next 5 years, selling more than 500 tons of produce annually with several hundred Partner Farmers. The primary objective of the Manager is to sell high-quality, organic fruits, vegetables, and herbs to international markets that pay a premium for organic certification produce. To do this, the Manager will develop effective market, product, and branding strategies. In 2017, the objective is to execute these strategies and generate $300,000 of sales in both export and domestic markets. Future years targets will increase significantly. As Marketing & Sales Manager for GreenPath Food, your responsibilities will include: $300,000 of sales are generated in 2017, meeting the following criteria: A minimum of $200,000 from export markets A gross margin of at least 30% A minimum average revenue per kilo of $4.00

3 Note: Sale targets will grow nearly double each year in the first three years of the position. Establish agreements with buyers at least 3 months in advance of harvesting season (with quantities and prices secured) for 50% of the company s anticipated production. Develop GreenPath s market strategy with recommendations on a twice yearly basis, which include an assessment of the following: Geographic markets Retailers/channels Consumer segments Develop GreenPath s product strategy with recommendations on a quarterly basis, which include an assessment of the following: A prioritization of the product characteristics dimensions to be considered when selecting core GreenPath products, for both export and domestic sales, and for both the near and mid-term. An analysis of products along these dimensions, identifying which products are the best match. An outline of products GreenPath will sell in the near-term with expected volume demands, and a queue of product to be tested for future sales. Develop GreenPath s brand strategy with recommendations on a once yearly basis, which will include an assessment of the following: A summary of the core elements of GreenPath Food to be communicated to buyers and consumers. A point of view on GreenPath s feel, including descriptions and examples of voice and imagery. An outline of the key methods and channels through which GreenPath Food will develop and communicate its brand. Develop and maintain GreenPath s marketing materials including the following: The GreenPath website Prospective buyer materials Point-of- Sale materials Materials and tools to engage consumers and connect them to

4 GreenPath operations, the products, and our farmers Develop GreenPath s consumer pricing strategy by market, product, and prospective buyer, as well as the farmgate pricing strategy, and update them each season. Ensure the fulfilment of all sales orders in collaboration with the operations team, managing each of the following: Buyer relationships and sales negotiations Sales contracts Invoicing and payments Export and import regulatory requirements and certifications Insurance, freight-forwarding, and other logistics Packaging Sound exciting? Skills & Qualifications Competencies & Characteristics Honest and direct when sharing both positive and negative information Enthusiastic, energetic, and driven in challenging situations Strong communicator and motivator in both Amharic and English Comfortable with taking responsibility Strong attention to detail Passionate about food Required Experience An undergraduate degree from a top-tier university with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA/or equivalent At least 3 years of professional experience working in one (or more) of the following areas: retail management, sales and marketing, international trade, export logistics, or business development Experience leading projects, managing and owning responsibility for all aspects, from conception to execution Experience engaging with professional individuals across levels, from junior team members to senior executives Fluency in English

5 Preferred Experience Fluency in Amharic Experience working at an early-stage organisation Experience working in the following sectors: agriculture, agribusiness, retail, grocery, consumer goods Experience developing excel spreadsheets and models/projections Term The Marketing & Sales Manager must commit to a minimum 24-month term, signing an initial 12-month contract. As a Manager in a young company, the opportunities for growth will be significant. Reporting The Manager will serve on the company s Senior Team and report to GreenPath s Managing Director. Location This position is based full time in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The position will require a minimum of twice-monthly travel to GreenPath production areas, with possible travel to the Middle East and/or Europe. Compensation The Marketing & Sales Manager will receive a competitive local salary. Relocation costs will also be covered.
