4 Weeds are getting tougher and Canada now ranks third in the world for the number of herbicide-resistant weeds, just behind Australia and the United States. CHANGE THINGS UP Every time you spray a herbicide, you encourage the development of resistance to that herbicide. That s just the way it works. Weeds will always adapt to herbicides, finding ways around their efficacy. And while we can t prevent weeds from developing resistance to herbicides what you can manage are the actions you take to slow down the resistance. Here are 3 actions you can take to slow down resistance: 1. Change it up. Do something different every year. Weeds are smarter than they look, they thrive on routine, so mix things up to throw them off their game. 2. Rotate crops. Plant different crops. Change up the growing habits. 3. Rotate herbicides. Use different modes of action, use products with multiple modes of action. Rotate your tank mixes. Change application timing. DID YOU KNOW? Tank mixing herbicides that have different modes of action and work on the same weed species exponentially reduces the risk of weeds developing resistance to the herbicides you are tank mixing. 2 TARGET WEEDS per sq. ft. Group 2 alone KNOW YOUR RISK If you had 2 target weeds/sq. ft. on a 100 acre field, and only used a Group 2 herbicide for weed control you can expect up to 87 Group 2-resistant weeds at the end of the season. UP TO 87 RESISTANT WEEDS by end of year WHAT S YOUR RESISTANCE PROBABILITY? This resistance pyramid ranks herbicide groups by the probability of weeds developing resistance. Groups at the top of pyramid have the greatest chance of weeds developing resistance to them, and use of groups at the bottom come with a smaller chance of resulting in resistant weeds. MODERATE-HIGH LOW-MODERATE LOW HIGH HIGH OTHER When you use Group 1 and 2 herbicides, you can expect resistant weeds to develop in your field in less than 10 applications. Source: Hugh Beckie, Research Scientist, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada When you use Group 4, 6, 9 or 10 herbicides, you can expect resistant weeds to develop after 20+ applications. 2

5 TACKLING ONTARIO S TOUGHEST WEEDS WITH NUFARM PRODUCTS Start your cereal crop off strong with BlackHawk the only pre-formulated burndown with two active ingredients and two modes of action. Together in a tank mix with glyphosate, BlackHawk s all-in-one formulation delivers faster, more complete weed control. When you need in-crop weed control, choose the best product to tackle your toughest weeds with new Enforcer M, Estaprop XT and Boost M. lamb s-quarters pigweed species common ragweed PRE-SEED + Glyphosate IN-CROP HERBICIDE NEW Enforcer delivers effective, post-emergent control for the broadest spectrum of tough-to-kill, wellestablished weeds including cleavers, chickweed, lamb s-quarter, ragweed, scentless chamomile and redroot pigweed in one convenient application. 6 CORN SOYBEANS CEREALS BlackHawk THE ONLY PRE-FORMULATED BURNDOWN SOLUTION WITH TWO ACTIVES AND TWO MODES OF ACTION WEED CONTROL CHALLENGE Glyphosate alone used to provide an effective burndown option ahead of corn, cereals or soybeans. But the widespread adoption of herbicide-tolerant crops, and the alarming spread of glyphosate- and Group 2-resistant weeds including Canada fleabane, giant and common ragweed, and others, has dramatically reduced the effectiveness of glyphosate-only control programs. NUFARM SOLUTION BlackHawk s all-in-one formulation makes it easier for growers to spray when they need to up to one day after planting soybeans. BlackHawk, when mixed with Credit Xtreme glyphosate, delivers faster, more complete weed control in a pre-emergent burndown treatment than glyphosate, Group 2 and Group 14 only herbicides. With two active ingredients and two modes of action, BlackHawk doubles as an effective tool for resistance management. 4

16 CORN CEREALS PASTURE NEW Proliant PLANT GROWTH REGULATOR BETTER YIELDS, BIGGER ROOTS AND ENHANCED EARLY SEASON GROWTH YIELD CHALLENGE With the ongoing drive for higher yields, many growers feel that they have hit a plateau in their corn, cereal and forage yields. Genetics, fertility and pest control can only bring a crop so far, especially when that crop faces adverse weather conditions that cannot be controlled. NUFARM SOLUTION Proliant is a new plant growth regulator that delivers powerful stress mitigation through a unique, patented, high purity formulation. Proliant increases early season growth of corn, cereals and grass crops. The active ingredient, gibberellic acid (GA3), is a natural plant growth hormone that elongates plant cells and encourages cell division. The results are larger roots, stronger stalks and a plant that can handle stresses more effectively. 14

18 CEREALS SOYBEANS NUFARM PROPICONAZOLE SAFE, DEPENDABLE, PROVEN CONTROL OF RUST AND LEAF DISEASE IN CEREALS DISEASE CONTROL CHALLENGE Some rusts are becoming a serious threat to cereal crops in Eastern Canada. Three species are found in cereal fields stripe rust, leaf rust and stem rust. Leaf rust is the most common and stripe rust has been increasing in incidence in recent years. The earlier in the season a rust infection takes place, the bigger the impact these diseases will have on crop performance. NUFARM SOLUTION Nufarm Propiconazole delivers broad-spectrum, curative and preventative activity to control rusts in cereal crops, including stripe rust. A Group 3 fungicide, Propiconazole can be applied early and in combination with herbicides to control rusts and other important diseases. Propiconazole can be safely mixed with all Nufarm cereal herbicides, and leads the industry with tank-mix flexibility and crop safety. 16

20 BUILD A STRONGER SOYBEAN PROGRAM Soybean acres continue to rise in Ontario and Quebec. And with those acres comes a continued demand for trusted solutions to get the most from every field. Nufarm knows the importance of getting weeds out of the way early in the season. Our proven portfolio includes pre-seed and in-crop weed control to set up your soybeans for stronger performance, better yields and a better bottom line. BIGGER YIELDS Extensive trials 1 have shown a 4-9 bu./ac. yield gain when a pre-emergent herbicide is sprayed before a post glyphosate application. REDUCE THE COMPETITION Keep your soybeans clean by reducing weed competition during the critical weed-free period from VE to V3.* MANAGE YOUR RISK Using multiple modes of action makes for a stronger stewardship plan and reduces the risk of weeds developing resistance to glyphosate and dicamba. You ll also be helping to protect the integrity of technology traits like Roundup Ready 2 Xtend soybeans. 22 SOYBEANS CEREALS Valtera PRE-EMERGENT RESIDUAL HERBICIDE FOR EXTENDED EARLY SEASON CONTROL IN WHEAT AND SOYBEANS WEED CONTROL CHALLENGE EARLY SEASON COMPETITION FROM TOUGH-TO-CONTROL WEEDS Early season weeds put serious pressure on young soybean plants, competing with the vulnerable crop for nutrients, moisture and sunlight. And when fields include tough-to-control pigweed, fleabane, lamb s-quarters, dandelion and nightshade, soybeans have to fight that much harder to get off to a strong start. NUFARM SOLUTION RESIDUAL WEED CONTROL FOR STRONGER YIELDS Valtera herbicide knocks out troublesome broadleaf weeds with long-term (up to 8 weeks) residual control in both Roundup Ready and conventional soybeans as well as wheat. Using Valtera (pre-plant or pre-emergent) with a glyphosate burndown provides residual control and boosts soybean yields. Valtera offers flexibility to plant wheat if cropping plans change. 20

24 SOYBEANS CEREALS CORN Fierce THE NEXT EVOLUTION IN CONTROL OF HERBICIDE RESISTANT GRASS AND BROADLEAF WEEDS WEED CONTROL CHALLENGE Remember when glyphosate or other nonresidual herbicides were all it took to control wild oats and most broadleaf weeds? Unfortunately, herbicide-resistant weeds mean that Groups 1, 2, 4 and 9 can t handle the problems alone anymore. Maximizing soybean and wheat yields depend on residual control of tough grass and broadleaf weeds. NUFARM SOLUTION Fierce herbicide delivers the broadest spectrum and longest residual weed control available for IP, conventional and herbicide-tolerant soybeans, and wheat crops. Pyroxasulfone is registered for suppression of wild oats and control of various foxtail and brome species at a rate consistent with the upper registered range of Fierce. This provides another option to reduce the effect of Group 1 & 2 resistant wild oats and grasses, and other annual weeds that impact yield and harvest management. Fierce controls resistant weeds before they become a problem. 22

30 SOYBEANS INTEGO Solo THE NEWEST FUNGICIDE SEED TREATMENT AVAILABLE TO CONTROL PYTHIUM AND PHYTOPHTHORA IN SOYBEANS DISEASE CONTROL CHALLENGE Phytophthora is the #1 disease that suppresses soybean yields with losses in Canada estimated at 10-40%*. Every time a soybean crop is grown in a field, new resting spores of the disease are returned to the soil that remain dormant until a host crop is planted into the field again. NUFARM SOLUTION For the first time in more than 35 years, soybean growers have a new fungicide seed treatment for control of pythium and phytophthora. INTEGO Solo protects the entire root system to create a zone of defense for crops and returns higher yields. *Bailey et al
