A Glance On Water Management Interventions & Watershed Model Developed By SATHI SOCIAL AWARENESS THROUGH HUMAN INVOLEMENT (SATHI) THAKUR DWARA DISTT. SIRMOUR (H.P)

Name of the organisation Address of the organisation Phone, & Website Legal status of the organisation Project Area SATHI aim Organization Profile SATHI (Social Awareness Through Human Involvement) VPO-Thakurdwra,Tehsil Pachhad (Via Sarahan), District Sirmour, HP , INDIA , , Registered under Societies Registration Act XXI of Registered under FCRA 1976, Reg. under section 80G and 12AA (2) of Income Tax Act SATHI works in remote and backward hilly regions of Pachhad, Nahan and Shillai developmental block of district Sirmour of Himachal Pradesh. Integrated rural development through people centered sustainable action ensuring an overall self-reliance among the women and the down trodden.

Major Problems In Project Area:- Scattered Population & Hilly Terrain. Water Scarcity, Both For Household And Irrigation Purpose. Depleting Of Natural Water Resources Lack Of Awareness About Rain Water Harvesting. Low Agricultural Production. Lack Of Fodder And Fuel Wood. Photographs : Conditions Prior To SATHI Interventions In Project Area Deploying Of Water Tankers By IPH Dept. Purchasing Fodder From Other Region Of State Very Low Vegetation Due To Deforestation

Planning, Implementation & Monitoring Of Project Activities Through Community Participation Formation Of SHG s, VMS & Ug s Providing Platform For Women Initiating Women Savings Due Consideration For PRI Decisions Solving Village Problem In Village Itself Organization Of Exposure Tours Providing Up To Date Information Regarding SATHI Activities And Various Programmes Implemented By Govt. Agencies. Presenting Income Expenditure Statements In Gram Sabha And Displaying It In Display Board Evaluation Of Project Activities By Monitoring & Evaluation Committee.

Impact of Watershed Model Land & Soil Erosion:- After SATHI initiatives under Land conservation i.e. construction of Brush Wood Check Dam, Loose Bolder Check Dam and Gabion structures, soil loss and erosion have checked up to ton. Fodder :- After evading of open grazing in watershed area, there is significant improvement in fodder availability i.e ton (2007), ton ( 2008), ton (20009), ton (2010) & ton in 2011 (Market value of fodder production in 2011-Rs 2,37,032 ). Watershed community is now able to meet their own domestic fodder consumption and also sell surplus fodder. It was only possible due to NRM and avoiding open grazing. In villager earned about Rs by selling surplus fodder. Milk Production:- After availability of green fodder, milk production also increased from 250 gram to 500 gram per cow/buffalo.

Impact of Water Harvesting Interventions Enhanced Water Storage Capacity:- After construction of various Rain Water harvesting structures i.e. Johdis, Ferro cement tanks, earthen dam, earthen dam, bawris etc, storage capacity of water have enhanced about 86,67,560 liters. After use of these techniques about 800 liter of Water can be stored of from 1 Sqm area in one year. Irrigation Facilities:- Before SATHI intervention, about Ha land was covered under irrigation facility only for 5-6 Month. After SATHI initiatives, duration of irrigation increased up to months and about 12.5 ha land becomes completely irrigated. Crop Production:- S.No. Crop Before SATHI intervention After SATHI intervention 1 Paddy 13 Quintal / Ha 27 Quintal / Ha 2 Wheat 6 Quintal / Ha 14 Quintal / Ha 3 Vegetables 10 Quintal / Ha 25 Quintal / Ha

Rain Water Harvesting Interventions under WATSAN Construction Of RWHTs With Proper Filter Media & Testing of Tanks By Technical Experts Rain Water Harvesting Model At Village Malana

Execution of Innovative Gravity Water Supply Schemes CAP Works ( Gabion Check Dams, Barbed Wire Fencing, Plantation Works etc) Near Water Sources Water Filtration Unit ( Roughening Filter) With Gate Valve Chambers

Impact On Water Accessibility after WATSAN After SATHI interventions i.e. execution of Water Supply Schemes & construction of Roof- Top Rain Water Harvesting Tanks ) villages are now able to get Safe Drinking Water at their doorstep. It have also reduced their drudgery (especially for women & school children's) and save time for fetching water from far distant sources. Villagers dependency on IPH Dept. for deployment of water tankers in lean period has been reduced. Spring Collecting Chamber (SCC) & Water Reservoir (With Chlorinator) under W/s works

Promotion of Personal Health, Domestic Hygiene & Environmental Sanitation
