Tasmania: Area: 68,401 km 2 Population: 520,000 Tourism: 1.28 mil/yr Reserves: 50% Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area: 20%

Biosecurity: Biosecurity is the management of risks to the economy, the environment and the community, of pests and diseases entering, emerging, establishing or spreading.

Biosecurity Network: Building a culture of good biosecurity practice

Our Beginning: 2008 Like minded professionals responding to the threat of Didymo in freshwater ecosystems (rock snot) Incoming passenger cards modified Shared responsibility, shared knowledge

Our Vision: That Check, Clean, Disinfect, Dry (CCDD) becomes universal practice in Tasmania Delivering - a shared communication action plan including consistent, layered messages tailored for direct engagement of different user groups

Our Approach: Focus on prevention rather than the problem species Tailor messages for high risk activities How: Hygiene protocols (CCDD) and other biosecurity controls Who: everyone moving around Tasmania s natural and productive landscapes When: with every visit

The most cost-effective way to reduce impacts of invasive species is to prevent them from establishing in the first place.

Our Projects: Shared communications plan Shared displays at key events How To videos Signage (Spirit of Tas) Biosecurity training - small producers, Green Army Biosecurity survey - annual

Our Engagement: Tailored support for specific community activities, tourism operators, farmers and event organisers RideClean - SA Mount Remarkable National Park Fat Tyre Festival 450 riders Discovery Rangers in National Parks

Our Grants: 2016/17 5 biosecurity projects; reaching 21,000 people, 5 biosecurity plans, infrastructure set up for 2 public activities 2017/18 13 biosecurity projects; 8 community groups, 1 indigenous community, 4 farmers. Sustainable agriculture, riparian restoration, threatened species conservation

Our Kits: Field Hygiene Kits - distributed 120 kits to community groups, industry, farmers, conservation landowners since July 2015

Our wash-down stations: Installed 20 boot wash-down stations in WHA Vehicle wash-down points Mobile mountain bike wash-down unit

Our Publications: Keeping it Clean a Tasmanian field hygiene manual to prevent the spread of freshwater pests and pathogens Brochure Simple steps for protecting Tasmania s wilderness Farm Biosecurity Planning Guide Ride Clean flyer

Our Videos:

Our Learnings: Coordination and facilitation is key to projects highlighting agricultural and environmental biosecurity Identifying buy-in for each partner Maintain contact and work on practical solution Highlight the shared cost and impact of poor biosecurity practices Annual survey to aid program design acts as engagement tool
